This is just the start of what will probably be a growing list of the drugs seen roleplayed in game. Feel free to add to the list or to add details you know about certain drugs.

1. Utopia - Similar to Opium

2. Nightshade - Poisonous plant. Usually smoked when used for a narcotic.

3. Nightmare meat - Meat from a nightmare. Usually eaten, causing hallucinations and nightmares. Umbran holiday treat.

4. Euphoria

Daeynaries wrote:

Affects of taking Euphoria:

Extremely high feeling, giggling.
Dullness of pain but heightening of soft touches.
Immediate addiction once used. (If you wish it to be rped
that way)
(Anything else you want to rp! Everyones body is
different so have fun with it!)

Side Affeects when coming down from Euphoria:
Migraines.
Mild depression.
(Basically anything you wish to rp!)

How long the drug lasts varies on each person!

Hmm...this is actually a good idea. If anyone has any potions/drugs they have made and wish to share for the community to ponder, consider using in RP or compliment you on perhaps this thread could be dedicated to that.

I'd be curious to see what people have used and how they have RPed the effects in the past.

"Meat Tenderizer" (actually is Utopia) was used during the Kinjiti trials. It was used on Cat and she was rendered unconscious for a while. Of course, no one actually knows, except maybe Isk, what Meat Tenderizer is. Tinkerbelle was given some to help her sleep after being sacrificed as a virgin. She had caught a glimps of the underworld and wraiths before being pulled back to life, and was not able to sleep because of nightmares. Sid brought her a supply of "meat tenderizer", probably from the evidence stash, and she still has some in her dresser. She was told to snort it. She immediately went to sleep and felt nothing but bliss.

I have been roleplaying Xana as being addicted to a thus unnamed potion, which was originally 'prescribed' by a healer. The reason I've not named it is because the ingredients I have in mind for the potion, to my knowledge, don't actually exist in Sosaria. However I am sure at least one of the ingredients would fall into an opioid classification. I've been having serious difficulty working out the exact ingredients because I try for 'believability' in my rp. So leaving it mysterious has so far worked. Plenty of people are addicted to 'prescribed' medication. Any input on the matter is welcome.

hehe Sid, is that so the pixie legs are more tender an succulent to eat?

I have on Great Lakes dabbled with pain killers made from willow bark (Aspirin I think) Foxglove and other plants with names in game offer great potential. (Digitalis I think was rendered from Foxglove, which is a heart stimulant) But many things even if they can't be gathered as resources have been used for medicinal reasons. Honey being another. (Cow Urine in 13th warrior and seen on Travel Channel some are used to drink to clean they system)

Honey is also distilled or fermented into alocholic beverage, along with wheat etc. So there are a whole host of things which do exist in game.

Not only plants but animal by products and bits of animals as well. Folks still believe eating certain foods will restore vitality and virility.

-Yes, Digitalis is made form Foxglove. It is fatal in high doses, though. It's an anti-arrythmic drug, used commonly to treat I believe atrial fibrillation. The entire plant itself, including root and seeds, are highly toxic. A small nibble may be enough to kill a human. Symptoms include Nausea and Vomitting (as seen with just about every drug), Anorexia, diarrhea, abdominal pain, hallucinations, delerium, and severe headache.

Fatal doses of Foxglove/Digitalis tend to cause the following: brady-arrythmias (abnormal/irregular slow pulse), or possibly tachycardia (fast heart) [can cause either, dependant upon patient], tremors, cerebral disturbances (often visual), and it may cause a blockage of the electrical conduction pathways in the heart. I forget exactly where.

-Atropa belladonna, or Nightshade, is another one. Atropine is derived from the plant. A common drug used to treat organophospahte (Insecticides and the like) poisonings and bradycardia (abnormally slow heart rate). Atropine as itself is unlikely to be recreationally used, but Deadly Nightshade was often used for the vivid, if often unpleasant hallucinations it caused. Overdoses will cause a rapid heartrate, and higher blood pressure. Death is often from shock (hypoperfusion, or a lack of oxygen being carried to organs), because of the increased blood pressure and heart rate.

Prolonged low dose usage of Nightshade in cosmetics, recreational drugs, or handling, can also cause increased blood pressure (hypertension) and may lead to cardiac issues, as well as blindness (specifically, Acute Narrow Angle Glaucoma).

-Mandrake Root is also a distant cousin of nightshade, and of course, has frequent usage in Sosaria. The root contains potent hallucinogenic compounds.

Saerelai Root and Meat

(New, but something Umbra will be using much)

Saerelai Cactus are a small long thorned cactus that grow in small rocky places in the Umbran desert.

The root is dried and ground into a powder that is typically mixed with insence and burned, but can also be smoked or consumed for the same effect. It has a dusky, almondy smell when burnt.

The meat from the cacti (after skinning and cubing) is kept soaked, usually in a drinkable spirit. The most common current "tinture" used is absynthe. Typically a single cube is added to a drink, and consumed when the drink is finished. The meat has a sweet taste (much like agave).

In small doses, both forms of the cacti act as a mild hallucinogen, with users reporting to see the boundaries between the physical and metaphysical realms. (Much as peyote or similar "magic" mushrooms would do.) It has also been noted as aphrodesiac and "stimulator" (ala Viagra).

In large doses, the effects increase geometrically. In very large amounts, fully dissasociative detached hallucinations with the ingester registering no input from the external world can occur. It has been recorded that if several users consume the amount together, the fully dissasociative detached hallucination appears to be jointly experienced. (if you are familiar with the Sookie Stackhouse books or the TV show True Blood, the effects of "V" are nearly identical)

I wonder, Kaelthir, what was the drug involved in the old slave trials? (Blur in the Sight I believe it was)

It's been so long I can't remember.

EDIT: Ceinwyn you might remember too. Was that Utopia or something else?
