The needle pricked Marietta's thumb a drop of blood red and rich forming on the top of it. How long had she sewn for her mistress? How long had she toiled by the light of a candle in this small room. The factory long since closed she had heard word that a new store was in the works and she would be moving.
She stared at the walls of her prison, her heart longing for freedom. The young seamstress was tired. Her eyesight was growing worse, her hands were poked and calloused from needles. She just couldnt imagine a lifetime of this servitude. Tears welled up in her eyes, it was not that the Toy Maker treated her poorly, she had clothing and food. Yet she was never allowed human contact. Always shut away she only saw one of the three....
She wanted to see the world, she wanted to meet the young gentleman that delivered goods to the shop below. As she peered longingly out her window at the dream of a life slipping away. He had seen her there smiling down at him, and she had smiled back.....

Yet she was not the only one that had seen the young man's smiles, nor heard his inquiries about the girl in the room above. Nightshade stood silently in the shop listening to the shopkeeper idly as she pretended to buy items.
She was perturbed at his interest, at the growing restlessness in her seamstress, she new it all to well. It was only a matter of time before the young man swept one of the best weavers in Sosaria away from Shade. She had no intent of that happening...
With a sigh her shoulders heavy she knew it was time to do that which she had long put off. She needed ultimate loyalty, she needed a focused seamstress. There was only one way to assure that her seamstress would remain loyal, that her eyesight would not fail, that old age would not affect her steady hands. It must be done now while she was young and well preserved. It must be done by the best..

She stood, doll in hand, staring at her seamstress, the young head bowed over the sewing. She felt a pang of remorse as she had worked long with the young woman but time had come for her final transformation.
Marrietta, I need you to make some clothes for this doll. She said it lightly as Marriettas head turned, the pale pink cheeks the beautiful red hair. She was like a living doll... She smiled, aye mistress, what type have we here?
A Knight in Shining armour my dear...Its a sad tale I suspect you already know the story. She held up the doll a perfect match of the young man who had stolen the seamstresses heart with a smile. Marrietta shook, I I dont understand..
I think you do....Marrietas head bowed tears streaming down her cheeks as she glanced again at the doll. Is he dead? Shade was silent for a moment, no my dear, and you hold the key...
Would you traverse the realm of the undead for your love? Marrietas eyes flashed angry at first then subdued.... Shade nodded, I promise you this, the two of you shall be together forever... She left the sobbing hitting closed ears as she hurried off to inquire of Barls help... _________________ Something is Wrong, I can still feel Existence... |
