The road from Cove to Vesper was quiet. Only the occasional traveler was nodding his head to Burfoot as he continued his tracking of Gryhm Greymalkin, the twin brother of Jonathan “Greyskull” Greymalkin.
It’s been two days since Gryhm left Cove and Burfoot wasn’t totally sure he was on the right track. Gryhm wasn’t going in straight lines, nor was he following the road. It was almost as if, Burfoot thought to himself, Gryhm knew he was being followed.

Unfortunately, Burfoot was about to find out he was on the right track after all.

In a clearing just outside the Vesper town line, Burfoot heard a whimpering sound. Faint, but it was audible enough for the halfling to hear it as he passed, piquing his interest enough to investigate.
As Bur got closer, he saw it was the young woman that Gryhm had grabbed from Cove, and he nearly became sick at her badly beaten body.

Bur quickly dropped down to his knees as he got to her and assessed her injuries. Her face was battered and teeth were missing, her left arm was limp as if broken or dislocated. Bruises were seen on other areas of exposed flesh. She either had put up a struggle and then was beaten, or Gryhm beat her for fun. Bur began to tear up as he was afraid to touch her and his hands shook when he tried to get close to her.

“Kill… me…” the young woman whispered through a clearly broken jaw.
“I don’t think so miss. I’m no healer, but I will help you the best I can. Please don’t move so I can bandage you up.” Bur went into his packs and produced a couple healing potions. “Here, drink these. They will help with the pain”.

The young woman winced as she tried to drink through bleeding lips and shattered teeth. As she lifted her head, she saw other potions in Burfoot pack. Quickly she reached in with her good arm and grabbed two of Burfoots special “Boom pots” and popped the corks off. “Tell Papa …I’m sorry” Burfoot almost didn’t notice it in time “NO!”
He quickly got up and began to run. He took two steps before the potions ignited, sending him flying through the air. He rolled as he landed and jumped back to his feet. He then had to brush off floppy his hat, which was on fire. “Damn! You didn’t have to do that!” Bur screamed in disbelief.

He walked over to the now charred and smoldering corpse of the young woman. He grabbed a carrier pigeon from his pack and some parchment, made a quick note to his location and sent the pigeon on its way. “When I get to Vesper I’ll be sure to get help. They’ll find you and give you a proper burial. I’m sorry it came to this” Bur touched her forehead and made off to Vesper.

Running through town he made his way to The Marsh Hall. From there he asked if anyone had seen a man matching Gryhms description. The man behind the bar said someone of that description was looking for passage to Jhelom, and that he found a sailor heading to Trinsic, and then to Jhelom. The name of the ship was Cottontail Sue.

Bur then ran off towards the docks, and once there he could see the Cottontail Sue 300 yards out. On the bow of the ship next to the tiller man…

Gryhm stood and waved to Burfoot with a smile on his face.
