Drayden arrived through the moongate in Moonglow shortly before dusk. The shadows had grown longer,
the temperature had started to drop as the sun was sinking below the horizon. It was times like these where
it seemed that skulking through the shadows would be easier. And even if it wasn't, it comforted the Drow to
know that he wouldn't be breaking his trend of not being discovered. The location of the headquarters for this
city's militia were exactly where the notes said they would be. It seemed his counterpart had been doing quite
a good job on his shifts of watching these humans. This had been a regular affair for going on two weeks now,
ever since they had reason to suspect that the Town Council was meddling with Humanis.
He was well hidden immediately as his body materialized from the moongate. Drayden had learned long ago to
never stay in one place too long, with this in mind he moved without a noise towards the side of the road which led
up to the main central area of Moonglow. The bank was deserted, no patrols as of yet.
I still need to be careful. They may spot me....don't get cocky.
With the expertise that only a Drow could possess he turned from the fence and gate that led into the city and moved
silently through the woods, heading south towards a point that the Town Council had claimed as their own. The trip was
rather slow, and took time to take the proper precautions to avoid being discovered. By the time he had reached their
Militia headquarters the sun had disappeared and night was setting in. Drayden made a quick sweep of the area, all the way
down to the point where they had errected several guard posts to overlook the sea. He made his way back to the large
brick building. He was used to seeing a large amount of traffic through here. Over the past few weeks this is where they
gathered to train and chit chat. As he rounded the side of the fence and silently crawled past the front of the fortress he
could hear muffled human voices inside. He perched in the dark shadows at the front corner of the building just near the
sign that designated this place as the Militia Headquarters.
It didn't take long, Drayden had barely sunk into the shadows of the large building when several uniformed Militia rode up.
Drayden counted at least 6. Maybe even more as a few others came down the steps of the building. The voices were not
so distorted. There was meaningless chatter about how things were going, a casino that had opened the previous night.
He easily recognized the Mayor as he approached along with several others. It seemed as if his timing was perfect, as they
were gathering for some reason. His heart froze as they stood extremely close to him. One of the officers was so close
to the Drow that he could easily have slapped him on the back of the head without taking a step.
The Mayor was speaking with a lovely young woman about what had been happening in their city. The casino of course was
discussed then came something that slightly surprised Drayden. "Samon has been spouting Humanis non-sense, but like I said
nothing new is going on." The drow made a note of that name, as this wasn't the first time he had heard it in respect to Humanis.
He could feel his blood warm within his veins. The fact that their Mayor could write off such information baffled him.
Apparently the woman's name was Yasamin. Yes, he had heard that name before as well. Though it surprised
him that a woman could look so lovely in armor, despite the fact that one man thought she looked rather "mannish".
"Our best warriors have bears on their heads." He overheard the Mayor say.
His attention was diverted then as there were a few of the Militia forming up in front of an officer he knew as Malicite. Three others
were in formation before him. Three of which had bears on their heads including this Malicite. Even more confusing was
the lone blond headed elf in the ranks. Some idle chatter passed between the Militia and the others standing about had directed
their attention by then most of it was them spouting about their expertise in battle and making proud statements that they would
perform flawlessly in the coming battle against the Legion of Honor.
Drayden looked to his left, the uniformed officer still had not seen or heard him, as he was watching the formation with interest.
"Tommorrow, we shall bash some tactics into them." Malicite was perhaps more pompous than the rest, it was strange. They seemed
to fear nothing....with the numbers he was counting that this Militia had, it would be a short fight with little of the glory that these troops
thought there would be. Either they have not seen many true battles or the must not be used to being on the losing side.
He thought to himself.
They moved then into the fenced off area that was used for training and sparring. Having seen enough of this over the past few weeks,
Drayden slipped away like a ghost then moving away to where he could recall back to make his formal report. This would be an interesting
next few days to say the least... |
