Daemons don't dream, as they do not sleep nor require it, yet humans do. That was a discovery Anthraxas had made soon after his artificial "birth." He did not know quite what to make of it; it was something he could not control, so he disliked that part, but that was made up for by the content which could often be quite amusing.
This dream, however, was anything but that.
A gigantic image of Oggaroth's livid grimmacing face appeared from behind a boiling black cloud. His red eyes flashed as he opened his fanged maw to speak. "Your time is up, servant! What did she say to you?"
Anthraxas, feeling very tiny, naked, and vulnerable in his presence, nevertheless controlled his fear. He knew immediately what the daemon god was asking. It was about Ceinwyn and his offer to help her make Umbra powerful, if she would make a return visit to his realm. "She refused," he replied. "She has something that will make it impossible for you to use your powers on her, and she has given it to me as well, so don't bother trying."
The god hardly broke stride in answer. "I am aware of your pathetic toys! Do you really think either of you could be beyond my grasp if I truly wanted to strike at you?! My powers are vast and my minions limitless. As difficult as it is for you to believe, I do not wish to harm either of you. I find you both too amusing as you are for that."
Anthraxas tried to wake up, but found it impossible. "I suppose this is more than a dream then. You are really speaking to me."
"I can do more than speak if you wish to test me?"
"No thanks. So what do you want me to do now? She is not going to obey you."
"For your part, you must first resume the daily sacrifices. One morning and one evening will do. Build me something worthy of me in your lands. That will allow my power to grow once more. It should impress her."
Anthraxas sighed. "Too many deaths will draw unwanted attention."
"Do it. I will accept as sacrifices the wandering thieves who frequent the area."
"Brigands. What else?"
"You must aid the dark cause that shall sweep through Sosaria like a black, rushing, tide."
"Oblivion?"
"Yes."
"What can you tell me of that?"
"Nothing. Learn it for yourself. Just know that I appreciate its purity and its intent. Like the one known as Minax and her machinations, I have always looked favorably upon it."
"They don't even believe in you."
"Faith is fool's fodder; I only require action. Its ends serves my ends, and vice versa. You know this."
"Anything else to make the ruination of this dream complete?"
Oggaroth's visage vanished. Upon awaking Anthraxas began the reconstruction of the temple to Oggaroth in Alderglen. Then he knew he must talk again to Ceinwyn. |
