At first sight the dead boys body laying upon the stairs of the Stonegate guild hall was intriguing. She thought nothing of it, firstly. Other than the potential he had, if he not been murdered he would have had the build of a warrior. Willow felt a twinge of pity for him. But still she pushed the thought aside. It wasn't until her mother commented that it looked a bit like Tyr did, that the boys features morphed before her eyes to resemble Willow's own fallen son. This disturbed her more than she would admit. Nightshade was recanting the tale to Orelen about how she hired the boy to deliver a message telling Myrddin that very special cargo was headed this way. The cargo needed to be guarded hence why she sent it to the Forsaken North. They concluded that whoever killed the boy was on their way to the caravan. At long last Willow was charged with intercepting the Caravan. Willow Arrived home and began to gather needed supplies for her journey. As she laid her pack upon the bed her Vanity mirror began to swirl as it did quite often, especially of late.
“The boy looked a lot like Z’ev, your son, did it not? Pity the boy shared the same fate, he would have been under your charge had he not died”
The mirror showed the scene with the child sprawled across the Hall’s stairs except now the boy had Z’ev’s face. This caused Willow to stop cold. She didn’t even notice Orelen’s place his hand upon her shoulder.
“I tire of this with you" Willow said looking straight ahead
Confused Orelen replied, “ I thought tonight went well...” he said Not knowing who she was talking to.
“We wait no longer, forever child, your rite of passage is now”
As the last was spoken the mirror shattered into hundreds of pieces and thrust at Willow. Tiny and large Shards alike embedded themselves deep into her flesh. Willow faintly heard Orelen call her name as the largest piece pierced straight into her heart. She fell to the floor. Orelen rushed to her side
“WILLOW!!”
Blood seemed and spurted from every cut the mirror made. Her very essence began to fade rapidly. Less than a minute passed and she was nearly a quarter gone. The shard in her heart prevented her from regenerating her blood to make her whole again. All the words that fell from her mouth were lame. Not a single coherent sentence was spoken.
“Willow, tell me what to do?” Orelen Pleaded. He began to put pressure on the worst of the wounds. Gathering her strength she grabbed his hand and placed it over her heart.
“It’s.....in.....there....”
Immediately Orelen tore his gloves off and reached for the shard in her heart. Carefully and unsteadily he pulled it out. New blood rushed from Willow causing her to fade even more. Nightshade had come to deliver the maps of the Caravans path when she barged into the bedroom with her eyes closed.
"Willow dear, are you decent? I have the maps" Nightshade said with Myrddin close in tow.
"Forget the DAMN MAPS!" Orelen yelled.
Nightshade's eyes flew open and observed the scene before her.
"What happened?" Shade demanded.
"She just started yelling at her mirror and then it exploded!" Orelen responded.
"She's losing so much blood. Why isn't she regenerating?" Nightshade asked
"A piece went into my heart, Orelen just pulled it out" Willow said with much effort.
"She's going to need blood. Orelen it's going to have to come from you seeing as you are the only viable living being. I don't think it would be a good idea for Myrddin to donate his blood." Orelen already had his gloves off ready to give whatever blood Willow needed.
"Orelen, go over and prop her up. Willow, I want you to just look at him." Obedient they complied. Willow groaned as the movement caused the mirror pieces to twist within her even more.
Nightshade pulled out a tube from her pack and proceeded to break off a fang. She attached it to one end of the tube. As she broke of the second fang Myrddin said, "Shade, you sure you want to do this?" Shade didn't even stop her pace. She nodded and proceeded to recite a poem.
There once was a willow tree
No bigger than my knee
She looked at Willow concernedly.
The willow tree was a pain,
like each drop of falling rain.
She quickly rammed the fang into Willow causing her to writhe in pain. The blood began to run from Orelen to Willow. Her eyes were getting heavy, all Willow wanted to do was to close them and let slumber take her.
"I'm so tired"
"Willow look at me, don't you fall asleep!" Orelen demanded.
Yet I loved her so that Willow tree
and begged her wont she come back to me..
Everyone watched her as she became more and more corporeal.
Come back to me My willow tree..
The worst was over. Nightshade asked Myrddin for some smaller knives to cut out the larger pieces. It had been a long time since she had seen Myr move so fast. He had also returned in record time. No more than a blink of an eye it seemed. Orelen carried her to the bed and they began to cut out the larger pieces of the mirror. The little ones they decided would just have to be absorbed. There was no way of getting every little sliver out.
Shade put most of the pieces into the vanity's drawer. Most of the pain had subsided.
"Both of you need rest"
"Mother.... the Caravan.."
She held up a hand to stop her. "I will ask Myrddin to send someone else"
"Thank you, mother and Myr"
"Of course, my dear" Nightshade smiled at her.
"I will not have you fall to a mirror"
With that Nightshade and Myr left the two to rest. Willow scooted closer to Orelen.
"I want to think you too"
"Willow I love you I don't to live with out you." She grinned at him and closed her eyes. Finally relenting to the slumber. Both fell asleep amongst the gruesome scene.
Moments later, Willow felt odd. She felt as she were being down pulled from her mid-section. She landed on her back. It wasn't as painful as she braced herself for. She no longer felt any of the little pieces of Mirror. Willow looked around and herself surrounded by snow. She thought to herself..."Am I dreaming again?" _________________ Malorn ‎(12:14 AM):
