It was not your typical night in Minoc. A half-moon crested in the midnight air as a far stars illuminated the small room in the mayors office through the window. Bailos and Balbanes stood at seperate windowsills peering out over the city as late night sounds of wagons and boats being loaded and moving filled the area. The world outside was asleep but Minoc was bustling with 'activity'.
The last of the screaming women and the struggling men and crying children had been rounded up and held down on the north end of town. The taverns around the northern square were converted to crude bunkhouses and a heavy guard detail coupled with barricaded doors kept them tucked inside, unaware of their fate. From the mayor's office, Balbanes and Bailos began to speak, both of them gazing over their project, speaking to each other without looking.
"Where do we stand?" Balbanes, in monotone, questioned....."Everything is cleared from the mines. I have rigged a system of delicate crystals linked to a keystone crystal that I carry that will detonate when I command. That should take care of that....As for the city. All the citizens have been round up as asked......" Bailos matter-of-factly spelled out.
"Good....And what of Vaen?"
"No sign of him for days....guards have reported seeing Legion scouts ocassionally. Nothing more....he'll be back soon though, I have no doubt." Bailos contemplated, and after a long pause, "I think we should leave, sire." "Hmmm? Who needs us?" Balbanes quizzed.
"Not for tonight.....for good....We need to get out of here Balbanes. Vaen wont rest until he's dead, and we're having a hell of a time with that. We should just -leave-." Bailos explained.
Looking down at the floor and folding his arms, Balbanes finally gave some words, "I've been thinking that myself..............Kill them." *Balbanes receives puzzled look from Bailos* "Kill them all.....Loot this wretched hell hole dry, and burn what we can't bring with us. Kill them all, one by one, unmercifully..."
A small grin worked it's way accross Bailos' face as he heard Balbanes explain his wish of death. Balbanes continues, "You can handle that. *Bailos nods* Then get to it.....I want them all dead by tomorrow night"
"Well......move along then" Balbanes decreed as he made a hand gesture for Bailos to leave. Just as Bailos was about to open the door, he stopped him, "WAIT........I have a better Idea. Select 10 women, 10 children, and 10 men, and send them to the keep....You've been begging me for something 'contructive' to do, well now is your chance. Take them to the tower and either use them to 'train' our new necromantic students, or experiment on them yourself. Just take them, torture them, and kill them.....Dismissed"
Turning curtly, Bailos headed back for the door with a grin, now pleased he would have his way with his experiments. Soon Minoc would be an afterthought........thinking to himself that, whether they held it or not was irrelevant. If they kept it, they could finish ransacking it and Bailos would continue his secret project in the mines....if they lost it, The citizens would be dead, the resources theirs and Vaen would be crippled.
.......The pieces were fitting in nicely..... |

Valkor stood at the door of Azeroth, watching as the 30 selected ones were herded into the castle with no clue of their fates.
He bit his tongue, he stared straight forward, face devoid of emotion. One could look at him and consider him a wall of no feeling, cold and merciless. But his eyes always gave him away. In his eyes sparkled at least a sapling of sympathy, and he avoided all eye contact with his brethren. Valkor reminded himself that he was a man that does what he does well, and he was not the blame for the Legion's foolishness. |

Late the next morning as the final shackled prisoners were ushered up to the cells in Azeroth's keep, Bailos stood in the council chambers speaking with several of his students, all necromancers.
Handing out pieces of papers to each and continuing to lecture while he did so, he explained various experiements and techniques to each of them. Guilding them through a detailed blueprint of the experiements they were to each do, some of them cringed, some grinned, and some didnt bat an eye. A guard quietly slipped the door open and tapped the Duke on the shoulder, handing him a manifest of the captives organized by sex, race, weight, height and various other characteristics.
"You've all been assigned to a group of three. You each have one of each, man woman and child, to performs these experiments on. I expect full and detailed reports of how the experiments went within 3 days. The schedule for who gets the lab time was the last sheet I just handed you....Dismissed"
As the students lingered in the room, chattering, discussing their macabre projects, Bailos slipped out the door to watch his new subjects in their cells. Waiting on the otherside of one of the cell doors, he spoke in a soft, eerie tone to them over their sobbing...."You're safe here, Vaen can't get to you now. Soon enough you'll be members of Azeroth, secure and happy in our arms, away from the pain you once new....do not fear my children....."
Turning and slowly walking away, he delighted in himself knowing that his time for fun would come. He welcomed the break from the fighting. He welcomed the familiar stench of death that now accompanied his work on a daily basis...he welcomed the chance to grow more powerful and to drive a dagger in to the heart of Vaen. |

Storming into Azeroth's Keep after his return to Minoc, Bailos raged down the aisle of Azeroth's grand meeting hall, tipping over benches, throwing chairs and going as far as unleashing his fury in the form of energy bolts on the delicatly crafter arches that lined the walls.
After his final outburst, a few soldiers along the wall, among them Darmug, stepped forward begging the Duke to calm down and explain what angered him....
Gnashing his teeth together, he spoke, "I went back to Minoc......to see how things were PROGRESSING *throws a section of bench*...But.....they're gone....During the guards shift change.....all the damn people......they're GONE"
The soldiers, and even Darmug would not speak. They merely stood in fear, as they had never seen their Duke rage as he was now.
Several seconds passed, feeling like an eternity, before Bailos curtly turned and went upstairs, making his boots heavy on the stairs with his anger. At a fast walk he threw open the door to the area with the cells, shoved the guard to the side and threw open a cell door.
Picking out the first person standing, which happened to be a middle aged male with furry eyebrows, and promptly upercut him, sending him reeling backwards until he tripped over a woman and fell. Bailos came to him, grabbed him by the hair and pulled him up and shoved him against the wall. Turning to the others, with a deep hatred and anger in his voice, so mad that he spoke with a hiss, he told them......"Words cannot describe my anger...The only thing keeping me from grabbing that axe outside the door, evicerating each and everyone of you and building a throne from your bones, is my plans.......Your 'friends' in Minoc have been freed.....*becomes increasingly more loud, until yelling*....NOTHING will compare to the pain and anguish I will make each and every ONE of you feel..YOU WILL ALL PAY for the sins of Vaen against me. His ARROGANCE has DAMNED YOU ALL!!" with those last words, several children started crying, clinging to their mothers, and everyone lowered their heads.
Bailos continues, in a more controlled tone, but still full of malice, "You will either burn in hell, or serve me eternally in undeath......I will torture you to no end and you WILL feel pain until my anger subsides....Then.....you will all....die"
After a long pause, Bailos grabs a woman sitting two feet in front of him by the shirt and lifts her up. Dragging her behind, he leaves the cell with her in tow, screaming all the way. As soon as he leaves, the door is slammed shut and several prisoners crowd the door, craning for a view as she goes to her doom.
As one of the men sinks down the wall into a huddles position, staring at the floor, he wonders aloud, "What will happen to us.....?". From the cell door, the figure of Darmug is seen......he looks right at the man and coldly says, "Die......just......die" |
