“In Flam”

Illumination flooded the room, emanating from the now-lit lantern. Already having discovered a small selection of new (albeit simple) spells, Rizzen opted for a bigger challenge. His position in Moonglow of Magic Development was an opportunity for him to expand his research. He sat down at his desk, within a small valley of the Research Material Mountains. Grabbing the summit of the closest peak, Rizzen delved into his arcane studies.

Eyes firmly fixated upon his tome, Rizzen extended his arm across the stone table, repeatedly grasping for something that simply wasn’t there. Lifting his head to look at his lonely grasp, Rizzen noticed his quill was misplaced, just beyond his reach.

“In Rel Por”

In a twinkling of light and a small puff of smoke, the quill vanished and reappeared at it’s intended location. With the slightest nod of a task completed, Rizzen took the pen in hand and resumed his work. His goal tonight was to discover potential, to see what spells he might be able to conjure in the future, with enough practice. He began with reviewing the Words of Power, the incantations that spellcasters use to conjure their magic. Flipping through the pages, his mind drifted to thoughts of his more favored Words and potential uses in new magic.

Corp: A powerful Word, to be true, and one not to be taken lightly. Hardly a Word with which to begin. While great spells come from this Word, I best find my start elsewhere.

Jux: Hardly more than simply a lesser form of Corp. While, more malleable to a well-trained beginning, best not risk it.

Tym: Ahh, my favorite Word, one hardly used often enough. There is great potential in this Wo…

Rizzen’s thought was interrupted by a sudden flash and a slight rumbling. Instinctually, he covered his eyes with his hand. The strange effect was over as quickly as it began. When Rizzen looked back to his desk, he found a scrap of parchment that was not there before. Upon it, in Rizzen’s handwriting, was written, “Don’t do it.” Giving only the slightest indication of what he might be thinking, Rizzen rolled and tied the parchment.

“Kal Bet Xen”

An azure, winged creature, no larger than a stone, appeared from thin air. Rizzen ordered the creature to place the scroll on his bookshelf. Flapping it’s wings heavily, the creature struggled to remain aloft as it flew away, scroll in hand. Rizzen got back to his study.

Grav: Another under-appriciated Word. Used only for distruction, but it has so many other uses.

Rizzen reflected on the potential of the Word, leaning back into his heavy stone chair, thoughtfully. After only a minute, he’d come to his conclusion. He’d experiment more with this Word, and unlock all he could from it. Energy flowed through all things. Being able to control and manipulate it freely could be quite useful. Content in his decision, Rizzen dropped his pen back in the inkwell, and slid it away from him, as if he were stuffed after a hearty dinner, and pushing his plate away. He pushed himself away from the table and stood, cracking his back as he did. Despite the Gargish way of thinking, stone did not make for good furniture.

“Vas Rel Ylem”

Silk and a wooden frame seemingly melted over the stone chair, transforming it into something made more for a flesh-based creature.

Pondering why he had never thought to do that before, Rizzen walked to the door of his small library. He didn’t want to be late for the Stonegate Trial, and thus grabbed his robe and hurriedly walked out the door, closing it behind him.

A few second later, the door opened again and Rizzen poked his head into the room.

“An Lor”

The door closed again, leaving the room in darkness.
