The Waterfall crashed all around them, but only a fine mist hung in the air. "This is amazing!" Lilyth laughed, reaching out and touching the curtain of ice cold water.
Dealthagar started up the small stone path. "If you want to see something even more beautiful, follow me." He took her hand, and led her up the narrow ledge to the grassy ledge.
She squeezed his hand. "Serenity Lake! I haven't been here in years!"
Dealthagar watched the brilliant blue lake's reflection dance in her magical eyes. He paused, lost in those eyes. How could he have known her for so long, and never noticed her beauty before? He cleared his throat and looked back over the lake. "Theysay time heals all wounds. I've come to realize that isn't true if you continue to pick at it."
Lilyth's brow furrowed and she smirked at his odd comment. "Didn't your mother tell you not to pick at things?"
He laughed. "Until now, I never realized i was picking at an old wound." He pulled the engagment ring from his finger, kissed it and threw it as hard as he could into the lake.
Lilyth's mouoth hung open in shock. "I thought..." Her voice trailed off, seeing the dark look on Dealthagar's face. they stood there for a moment in silence. "Dealth, you alright?"
"I love her. I always have. I always will." He took off his hat, roughly stuffed it into a pouch and shook his hair free. "But fate will never allow us to be together. I cannot bear the pain of being alone, but I will not bear the pain of pining away for a woman that I cannot be with. Not anymore." He turned to Lilyth. "I will move on with my life. The past is gone, and it will not return. It is time to look to the future."
Lilyth smiled as she saw years of lines and grief melt from his face. The old wizard suddenly didn't look so old anymore. "That's wonderful Dealth. You've been through so much. You deserve to be happy."
"So do you." He dropped to a knee and withdrew the small box he had taken from the chest out of his pocket. It opened, revealing a gold ring with a huge blue diamond set in it. "Neither of us should be alone. Marry me, Lilyth." Her eyes went wide as saucers. "For years we've been the best of friends. Told each other everything. Teased each other playfully. Made lewd and suggestive comments as often as we could. We have always had feeling for each other, but circumstances have never let it be. Damn circumstances, damn politics and damn what anyone else may think or say." She smiled as he slipped the ring on her finger. "Let us live for now, and the future. Let us walk together, as one."
Tears ran down her face as she fell to her knees, meeting him face to face. Throwing her arms around his neck, she kissed him, and he had his wordless answer.

NOTES FROM WRITER:
The entirety of these events occured the other night. Some embellishment for literary palatability was used to enhance the story, but it all transpired in game. This is what unscripted RP can and should be! I can only hope everyone has at least one truly inspired night. _________________
