Case: City Watch vs. Cal Hurst

Official Charge: Assault w/ extreme prejudice against a member of
the City Watch.

The accused: one Cal Hurst, a known mercernary*

Incident: Early, on the evening of the 16th of November, Inspector D'Brae and
Constable Longlimbs were having a look around Hanse's Hostel. They had received
reports that there might be illicit activities going on. That the Hostel might
be serving as a way-station for an underground network of organized crime. In
this particular case, for the sex trade in adolescent woodland critters and
for the distribution of pixie dust, an illegal narcotic rumored to be trafficked
in the area. In the course of their duties, a female employee of the establishment
repeatedly asked if they wanted a drink, even after they identified themselves
as officers on duty. D'Brae and Longlimbs got suspicious and started questioning
the said employee, in case she might be trying to bribe them. It was at this point
that Mister Hurst butted in, obstructing the officers in the line of their duty.
No matter how many times they politely asked him to calm down and stop getting in
the way of their investigations, he only became louder and more bellicose.

Once it had gone too far, the officers tried to take him into custody and escort
him to the City Watch Precinct, but he resisted, brazenly. Inspector D'Brae, followed him
outside, and kept politely asking him to stop walking away and to stop resisting
arrest. But Mister Hurst refused and walked to the dueling pen behind the hostel.
D'Brae, followed and kept trying to advise Mister Hurst of his rights, that he
could call for a lawyer to meet him at the precinct. And that it would probably
all be cleared up after some calm questioning. But Mister Hurst refused to go peacefully.
And proceded to taunt the Officers. As trained, D'Brae continually stressed that
neither his partner, Constable Longlimbs, nor himself were duelists, but that they
were, in fact, peace officers. At this point, under the derisive chanting and
encouragement of the gathering crowd, Mister Hurst attacked Inspector D'Brae. Even as
D'Brae kept, politely, asking him to stop, Mister Hurst refused to comply, and then
summoned faerie creatures, who then used nefarious magical means and proceded to
greviously pummel Inspector D'Brae until he lost consciousness.

Some time later, after Inspector D'Brae was resuscitated, he asked Mister Hurst
why he had done this thing. Hurst answered, that he figured if the officers were going
to try and arrest him and throw him in prison for the rest of his life, he felt free
to attempt killing them. Obviously, this is an evasion; a ruse of the worst kind.
Mister Hurst clearly wanted any excuse to commit an assault, and had cooked up this
rationalization in a pathetic attempt to feign ignorance of the law. Both Inspector D'Brae
and Constable Longlimbs concur with this finding. Ignorance of the LAW is indefensible!

While this was all going on, no doubt the illicit criminal activities continued
unabated. Innocent and trusting woodland creatures were likely passed through hands
for gods only know what sort of acts of complete depravity. Not to mention how many
likely pixie dust overdoses that might have been prevented, but weren't... Thus proving
how much of an obstruction, to justice, Mister Cal Hurst has shown himself to be.
A rather damning indictment of his character...

Witnesses to the Assault: Inspector D'Brae, once he regained consciousness, wrote down a
list of the witnesses that he was able to observe. They are as follows: Constable
Longlimbs, Garrett, Rizzen, Sarkia, James, Sarker, Rotep, Felyn Calamyr, Jarem Toron, Yasamin,
Theron Vandekarr, Mei Fa Lo, Adrian Bishop, and Yuna. Constable Longlimbs
might be able to remember further witnesses. These were the only citizens that Inspector
D'Brae could identify, in his addled state, before the crowd completely disbursed.

Suggestions for Sentencing: The Precinct believes that the rehabilitation of the
accused would best be achieved by some period of forced labor as part of a resource
gathering chain gang. The duration of which would be at the Judge's discretion, of
course after "due" consideration of the "seriousness" of the offense. In addition once
released, it is advised that the accused be placed on parole, made to check in and meet
with a court appointed parole officer, the duration of which, again, to be determined by
the sitting Judge. And, it IS quite earnestly suggested that the accused might best be
served to attend a course in some form of court approved Anger Management.

Thank you for your time. If you need to interview Inspector D'Brae or Constable Longlimbs,
that can easily be arranged through the Precinct.

Commander Bleys stamps the dossier "Case Dismissed".
