Written in sloppy hand writting as if penned in a hurry
Merri
It has been awhile since we last saw each other, Alot has happened in the time I was away. I ran into your sister, and we have talked about the things in the world that have changed. by the way she looks terrible. She is worried about you and with the changes in the world so am I. She stands beside me as I write this note. I would like to set up a time where we can meet and talk. It will have to be some place other than your home for I dont think being seen with me there would be in your best intrest at the present time. You can leave word at the Salty dog in brit or send your reply back with this messenger she can be trusted.
Your friend

Merrique returned to the garden from a trip to buy supplies for it. Upon the gate, she saw the parchment. Mumbling to herself, she removed it and read it.
"Hmpf," was her only response. There was no surprise, no annoyance, just a flatline emotional reaction.
She went inside and sat atop the chest where she seemed to be spending so much time thinking, which often turned into a staring session. A passerby might see a woman admiring her garden, when in reality she didn't even see the garden at all when this happened. Resting the parchment on a small board upon her lap, she penned her reply.
Once her response was complete, she left it with a trusted friend at the Salty Dog.
Zeth,
Yes, it's been a while hasn't it? Yes. Much has happened.
I'm not sure how I feel about some of your comments in this note to which I respond, but I will meet with you if for no other reason than we once upon a time were friends.
It is good to know you are still alive. Aren't you? Or have you too succumbed to the lure of eternity?
I will meet with you tonight at about 6 p.m. in the place you find this letter.

. . . But the dark is very trustworthy.
It's always as dark as you thought it was.
And you don't have to work at staying there.
All you have to do is survive it.
And I've been doing that forever.
