The days grew longer and each day she found herself more alone inside. Her depression was growing and little moved her from her bed. She was beginning to succumb to dark thoughts and could find no reason to move on. There was a brief moment of hope , a small light for a new life, but it too was overshadowed by loneliness once again. Having Max return had given her even more hope of recapturing her once carefree and happy thoughts. But alas that too was taken, and since that day that she had found the note in her mailbox she just sat trying to figure out where she belonged, what she should do. Leaning over Brianha took the note off her nightstand and traced her fingers on the script trying to feel him through it.
"Bri, I have left Vesper again on another long trip. Don’t worry about my house… I didn’t do anything with it anyway… the foundation will simply crumple away. Do not miss me… as my presence will be felt by you every time you sit in the chair at your writing table. One day I may return.
Cheers,
Max
P.s I left a bottle of wine for you to raise a glass in my memory."
It was odd but she realized she needed to be with Max, he was her last link to a happy life right now. Just his company, just his reassurance was all she needed. She began to stand and had to steady herself from the dizzy spells as she stood. She was weak and needed nourishment, then she would pack her house up and close it up. Returning wasn’t on her mind, but just in case it would be safer to keep her valuables stored in town. The house she would be sure to leave for Nicodemus to take care of or sell … She cared not right now, only finding peace in her soul mattered. She knew Max was tortured inside also, he had been for years. Perhaps together the two of them could find that serenity, help each other through whatever demons haunted their souls.
She had much to do and needed strength for her endeavors and so she made her way to the kitchen to prepare a small meal. For once the weight seemed lighter on her shoulders, she would no longer be alone and that thought gave her the comfort and strength to seek out her future. |
