Dear Regent Thraxas,

This letter may come as shock to you, which is expected I suppose. I feel as though I should have contacted you sooner, due to the situation at hand. For it's not only King Sid who reigns over Yew, but you too have much influence.

I wish to meet with you, to discuss a few matters at hand. Not yet has war found its way to your door steps, so I think this would be the most suitable time. I'd be willing to hold our one on one meeting in the Blackmarsh tavern. I ensure your safety from any who bare arms in my area. In response, I ask that you don't have me stabbed from behind during our conversation.

If you feel uncomfortable with the meeting place I've suggested, I understand. Responde to this letter at your earliest convenience and we can work out a meeting place.

Having delivered the letter, the messenger is cordially entertained at Covenant Castle as the Regent bade him wait until he could return with a suitable reply.

Thraxas read the letter and considered it carefully before replying:

"Honorable Mayor Bracken,

I do appreciate you contacting me about a meeting to discuss the particulars of this developing situation between our two lands. I arrived very late at the Protectorate conference last eve and only got a partial understanding, then, of what was transpiring. I discussed this with the King to clarify what it was about, so I have some comprehension of what you speak. However, the King arrived earlier and made decisions on the matters directed to him, in my stead.

This is not to say I am without voice or power to influence things in Yew but my entire vocation is not the keeping of the lands themselves, but governing the populace. The lands are King Sid's inheritance from Queen Lilyth Noir who claimed them for many years along with Duke Kotare. Thus when you spoke of laying claim to the land, the King inevitably would have stepped in to respond, which he did. He made it clear to me he did not wish to secede any portion of it to anyone.

I would gladly meet with you to consider means by which we may avoid a bloody and costly war that surely neither of us want. I am most intrigued as to why you wish these lands for yourself, or Blackmarsh. Hence I will meet you and discuss that, as long as you realize the limitations of my position. You need have no fear of any danger; I am a man of honor and do not use such methods on potential enemies, only known ones.

I will inform the King of this, lest he presume falsely that I am conniving instead of mediating. He knows that my work is entirely political and should approve, as long as I do not sacrifice what is his and not mine.

I will visit this eve and will send my raven courier in advance to inform you of my arrival, if that is acceptable. I will bring no others with me. On that you have my word.

He affixed his seal and rolled up the document, placing it in a hollow brass mail cylinder. Having delivered it to the waiting courier, he sent him on his way.
