Korin had dueled before, he had fought in two battles before, but for the young man with the cold blood this time was different. He sat at the table with his friends waiting for it to begin. The lump in his throat making it almost impossible for him to drink anything.
As the time approached and people started to move upstairs to the arena Korins mind raced,[align=left] was he really ready for this. The noise of the crowded arena area, the excitement in the air was almost too much for him, His dinner was now stuck in a lump in his throat as he took his place beside his mother. Korin tried hard not to let his nerves show on his face for after all he was a d'Rue and they did not show emotions atleast not in public.
Korin watched as the first duels began. His eyes fixed as the men and women entered into the arena and began the dance as he liked to refer to it. He watched and took mental notes of each fighter. At His name was called, Korins legs refused to move he felt as if he was going to throw up. He felt that ever pair of eyes in this place were on him. For Korin the walk from where he stood beside his mother to the arena seemed like the longest path he had ever traveled.
Korin fought back the vomit as he turned and faced his opponant. There name he could not recall but they wore the colors and dress of the Blue Lotus. Korin had trained with them, and was sure that he had dueled this person before which brought him some relief to his nerves. The fight to him was a blur of blows parried, thursts made, some landing and some missing. His eyes and every sence in his body was focused on one person. The blur of people outside of the arena, the noise they were sure to be making. Didnt matter now it was him and one other dancing. Then it was over Korin looked down at his opponant.
Korin Had won his first duel, in his first ever tournament. His hands and arms were shaking as he moved back to his spot beside his mother. He had to remind himself more than once he was a d'Rue for every muslce in his body wanted to jump up and down. Korin watched as his mother pulled off a victory to start off the second round.
Korins second fight in his tournament career went much faster than his first, but still it left him with that same adrenalin rush, it took all his efforts to control his emotions as he walked from the arena victorious for the second time. Korin moved into the third round and after watching his mother go down. It was his turn. Korin's next duel was with a fellow Guardian from Stonegate and an old time friend, but this was no time for friendship. Korin knew that it would not be an easy fight and would not be pleasant. When the wall fell Korin did the only thing he could he charged. It was his quickest fight of the night and when it was over Korin looked up from the ground.
It was only after he had lost his third fight did Korin realize how far he had gone in the tournament. He had made it to be one of the final four. Korin thought back as he stood not really watching the final fight. He could have ended up facing his mother in a duel something he had only done once since his return. Another thought sank into his mind as he looked around at the crowd of people as they cheered on the two combatants.
The Guardians of Stonegate had three fighters in the final four, Two of which were d'Rue's. Korin scanned the crowd and his eyes locked on his mother. A scense of pride welled inside of him like never before. Not just in himself but in all of Stonegate. As korin walked down into the tavern The wolf king spoke to him congradulating him on a fine performance. With the words of praise from his king, Korin's mind clicked, "I have earned my place."
