Lilyth sat at her writing desk nervously sipping her wine. Dealthagar had not come to speak with her the previous night and this was cause for concern. When they had last spoken he seemed nervous and darker than he had when called from their dinner to the Castle. She had been unduly agitated after their last conversation, he had taken her by the hand looked into her eyes and swore his love for her, then asked the unthinkable. "Embrace the darkness, embrace singularity" he had said. For years Lilyth had tread a path between good and evil, her true loyalties lay with neither. Her love of the virtues smashed upon the wheels of the Regency. The loyalists guilds had refused aid in the wars for Vesper, it seemed to her that there was no virtue in this land. Her mood darkened as she thought of RedWind. How could she have been so thoughtless in her dealings with him. He was the most loyal and caring of men, never wavering in his convictions. For that she adored him it was never a game of chance with RedWind. His support of her never wavering. Yet she had said yes to Dealthagar’s proposal without thought. True they had been close over the years, so close in fact that it had been only a short time since they had spoken of his impending wedding to Anna. Lilyth knew Anna, she knew that her wrath would be fierce with the both of them for such a betrayal should she return to the lands. Still in that moment by the falls when the sadness in Dealthagars face had changed to hope and happiness she succumbed to his beguiling charm and answered yes. It had always pained her to see him unhappy. Even the knowledge that his true heart would never be hers was no deterrent to Lilyth’s desire to see Dealthagar happy. There was love between them she knew that much to be true, but the nature of that love bewildered her. Was it the love of a friend or the love of a wife? What of her undeniable feelings for RedWind? What had she done, what disaster lay in wait due to one snap decision based entirely on emotion? Lilyth rarely made a decision until she had thought through every course of action. This time she had and she was sure she would feel pain in many ways she could not even conceive. A tear rolled down her cheek as she looked at the tapestry RedWind had given her when he professed his feelings for her, the engagement ring glittered and flashed brilliantly as the flow of tears rolled down her face falling from her chin. Never had such emotion roiled through her and she did not like it. Wiping the tears she opened the door to her office and strode into the night. There had to be a way to quell her emotions and blunt her mind, wine was not the painkiller she sought. As she walked out into the moonlight she remembered the talk of a substance from Cove, a cure all some said, others claimed it was a foul addicting substance. Either way just once wouldn’t hurt would it?
Lilyth packed lightly, she donned a brown cloak and a tattered dress to disguise herself. She left a note for her housekeeper and a purse to be sure the household ran smoothly. She then made her way to Brittain and boarded a ship headed for Cove.
