Word had reached them that Barra’s village was attacked, and that their friendly neighborhood Shaman wished them to return to the village and attempt to rescue any survivors. Jareth geared up, grabbing his newly crafted crossbow and some bolts, as well as some leather armor, and met his fellow Marshians on the lawn of the Tavern.

Orelen lead the charge, leading the group through a magical gate and to the Compassion shrine of Ilshenar. From there, they headed south and then west until they found the cave that would lead them to Barra’s village. As they entered it, Orelen lit a torch and led the way carefully through the dank, dark area, until they emerged in to sunshine on the other side.

The plains stretched far and wide, to the west a huge fortress towering over them. They were careful not to attract the attention of the guards on the walls there, and snuck south-east toward the swamp area where the village lay. On the path to the village, they encountered a few of the raiders, and quickly dispatched them. Even the alligators and mongbats gave the stalwart party little pause.
As they approached the gates of the village, they could see armed sentinels, pale in the dying light, armed with torches and spears. The party quickly took to the base of the walls, creeping covertly toward the entrance.
Within seconds of reaching the entrance, they were set upon by the hostile invaders. The group had little trouble dispatching them, thanks to their Blackmarshian training. After dragging the pale, limp bodies of the savages away from the main road, the group continued in to the village, finding it in a desolate state.\

Huts were burned or burning, many of them completely destroyed. The scent of rotting and burning flesh hung heavy in the muggy air. As the group crept low to the ground, they could see the pale savages patrolling and carousing with their spears at hand.

They fanned out and checked each hut methodically, searching for survivors. Where they met resistance, they quietly took care of them and hid the bodies out of sight.

Finally, they met up near the Ridgeback pen, where they found a few wild ones held captive. Per Barra’s request, Camilla tamed one and mounted it, while chasing down another. The rest of the group held watch, averting their eyes from a grisly display: A skeleton with meat still hanging from its bones tied to a post and burning. The bones were too underdeveloped to be an adult. They decided to keep this detail from Barra, as they knew news of his village’s state would be bad enough.

After having searched every hut, the group decided that all survivors had long since been killed, and decided to escape before the whole of the savage army came down upon them. On their way out, they encountered a little resistance but managed to keep from attracting the attention of the rest of the sentries.

Upon returning to the Compassion gate, the group parted ways, their steps a bit heavier and their minds weary with the weight of what they had seen. Still, its effect on them would surely pale in comparison to Barra’s guilt and sadness.
