A courier has delivered the following letter from Lord Regent Thraxas:
"Greetings Honorable Regent,
I can only assume you received word about the peace treaty between Yew and Blackmarsh. It was unavoidable, but we did obtain some small measure of compensation for our loss. However, the reason I write to you is that I have not heard anything from you or any of our allies regarding this. I would think the elimination of a two-front war would be something worthy of some celebratory or encouraging word. Instead, my missives have been met with silence.
I find this most disturbing. Allies and friends do not hesitate to communicate often and freely about such vital matters of state which effect them all.
It leads me to wonder not so much about your ability to govern or command the Protectorate (I am sure it is a difficult job at the best of times!), but rather about the fabric of this alliance and government. While there were some Protectorate forces willing to aid in the defense of Luna, they were noticeably absent from the defense of Yew. I know that some forces of Umbra got wind of the first battle and fought their hereditary enemies from Stonegate at it, but their aid was *not* solicited by me or the King, though we were blamed for it. Their presence on the battlefield was a complete surprise to us, and though we decry their philosophy, their aid was useful if not successful in stemming the tide. They did not reappear in the following battle. I say this to counter any objection that Protectorate forces deliberately withheld aid because of perceived Umbran support. The truth is, some simply did not care to defend Yew, even when Yew sent help to them in time past.
Therefore, I am seriously considering withdrawing our support to the Protectorate. Until it can be proved that that body can in any way live up to its very name, defend ALL associates, loyalists, and allies, from ALL enemies, not merely Umbra, then I find its value questionable at best. The King has left this matter in my hands, so you need not worry him with concerns. You may address me alone regarding this matter. I will take umbrage otherwise.
You will know my decision as soon as I have reached it. If you wish to rebut my remarks, in whole or in part, I will welcome it. Sound reasoning may tip the scales, if it can truly be presented.
Sincerely,
Thraxas
