Korin walked slowly through the snow heading away from the Guild hall, His face was alight with a smile. He could not ever remember seening his mother so flustered as she had been. Korin thought back to the way Bishimi had squirmed and it made him laugh. Even the Wolf king had been no match for this woman on this night.
Emily Gwynn had kept them all on their toes. Korin had felt something stir in him when she called him her boy. Korin had grown accustom to his mothers lack of showing affection. He had felt that it was the d'Rue nature after meeting his aunt Fiona. So he had resided himself to becoming and emotionaless man who never found happiness. Korin stopped in his tracks something that Emily had said struck him between the shoulder blades. He looked around as if exspecting there to be some one there with him. The path was empty, accept for a ice snake that made its way up the snow covered path.
Looking around to make sure he was truely alone Korin began to speak in a soft voice. "Grandmother can you hear me?" he paused as if waiting for an answer. Then thought about how stupid he must look. "Grandmother we need your help mother is troubled by this self imposed curse. She needs to be happy. I would do anything to have her happy. Grandmother I know you are dead but it was sure good to see that not all of my family is emotionless and bitter." He paused as a gust of wind blew throught the pass and swirled the snow around. "I must have gotten my sense of humor from your side of the family. Grandmother help me break the d'Rue curse so that my mother can know what its like to feel joy and happiness." Korin looked around, He was still alone in the pass. He began the walk home. Turning to look back down the Pass at Stonegate Valley Korin smiled. "You know what Grandmother maybe you were right maybe its time to drop the Bastard atitude, And just be a son." As Korin walked on up the pass and entered the upper valley that his tower was in he smiled turned and looked back "Nice talking to you Grandmother good night." He brought his finger to his lips and kissed them then blew them into the wind. Korin was smiling big as he entered his tower. |

Side by side with her boy, Emily Gwynn d'Rue walked the passages of Stonegate. She listened closely as her Grandson spoke and smiled to herself as he turned to take note of the winds that seemed to follow her presence. No he couldn't see her, she didn't have the strength to take form. The night had worn her strength down to nil. But she never stopped listening. Never stopped watching. and when her boy blew her a kiss she thought her heart would bust from pride and love. Maybe, just maybe, there was hope. And it resonated in Korin's smile. |
