What was to be a simple conversation with her headstrong, stubborn as freshly mortared bricks in a wall, child; turned into much more. Before she knew it, Emily was conversing with a whole room of people.

Her Grandson, Korin, strong, intelligent and respectful. Not once had he said an unkind word or phrase in her presence. Somewhere along the lines he had learned manners. A smile curled at Emily’s lips. He was a good boy. And that girl he liked, Ciara, seemed like a decent match. She would give him a run for his money. She noticed the girl’s silence was more out of respect for the situation than it was for lack of tongue. Yes she had a tongue that one, and she would use it.

Myrddin, the head of Stonegate. Now there was a kindred spirit. He seemed to understand her questions and he had no problem sharing his space with her. Yes, that was an easy bond to forge. One she would not take lightly. It occurred to her that he was not one to share unless he trusted you implicitly. And Emily, in a turn of respect to acknowledge his rule as well as keep their new bond, requested permission to return to his space, his kingdom. It wasn’t a necessity, they both knew she could go as she pleased, but it WAS the honorable thing to do.

Willow. Good sense of humor that girl. And she cared deeply for Emily’s family. That in itself would have given her brownie points in Emily’s eyes. But the fact that the girl knew how to laugh made it more so. So often Merci forgot to smile. Willow would be there in the future to make sure to remind her. Emily made a mental note to discuss certain family stories with Willow. She could use them to tease Merci into a smile as the years went on.

Bishimi. Finally she had gotten to meet the prospective groom. He had taken the time to answer her honestly. He could have lied which would have only ticked her off and assured him a low spot on her rung of respect. But he didn’t. There was something to be said for that. Additionally, Korin seemed to like him. Grown or not, children’s opinions matter when their parent’s get married. This wedding was no different. Her appearance had set him off a bit. She grinned, in a very female way it was funny to watch him squirm. At the same time, he would be a good provider and husband.

Merci. Finally her thoughts centered on the girl. What she had told Myrddin about her being a handful was no lie. It was not news either. She always had been and she always would be. Emily’s center coiled slightly and her ghostly fingers played thoughtfully with something in her left hand. That something hadn't left her sight in the twelve years since her death. It had been a constant. There was so much to remind Merci of. So many things left to discuss. When she left, exhausted and out of strength last night, she had promised it would not be her last visit. She was here until her work was complete. That meant bringing Merci face to face with some of her nightmares and then helping her walk through them. Tears rained down inside her heart as her thoughts turned to her beloved husband. He had always been the solid surface keeping her upright. Marus was her bookend, her lover, her husband and her best friend. Gods help her she needed his strength now.
