Alexis laid quietly underneath her covers, her six year old brow sweating from the shock of her abruptly awoken state. The rattling from the other room had penetrated what little sleep she managed, as her sister shifted in her coffin. Lexi quickly got out from under the covers, scooting under the bed as she stared at the other room. Her eyes darted to the chest where she hid her sister's axe in a desperate attempt to sleep well through the night. After a few more minutes, the noises calmed, and Lexi sighed a small bit of relief. She reached up, and dragged the blanket and pillow under the bed with her. She fluffed her pillow and laid dow, pulling the blankets over her head as she closed her eyes. The sound of shallow breathing was all that was heard for the rest of the night.

She was a little older physically, though little time had passed. Lexi slept on the coffin, her sister within. The dreaded axe was hidden within Dominic's room, far from anyone's reach. The sun slowly moved up over the horizon, causing Lexi to awake with a start. The dark circles under her eyes betrayed her physical state of being, but the spry jump and walk hid it well. Lexi grabbed her book and went into Dom's room, seeing the bed unmade. She went for the chest, openning it to reveal the axe, then threw it out into plain sight before dashing off. Chanting the words she had memorized off more than one scroll, Lexi found herself in Felluca in front of her father's house. Giving a rare grin of pure joy, she ran in.
"Daddy, are you here Daddy?" she yelled, running around the house. She came to an abrupt stop upon seeing a small letter nailed onto the wall. Being approximately seven, she couldn't resist reading the note, her mouth forming each word slowly.
Dear Lexi,
I've taken your brother Dom with me to learn more on how to fight. You need to stay home with your mother or Willow and be a good girl for them until I come back. Remember I love you.
Love,
Your Daddy
Alexis stared at the note, a cold fear seeping into her blood. Her mother wasn't going to save her from her sister. Willow sure wasn't. She heard a scream of horrow as outside, another man fell victim to the wandering murderers. With a shiver, she knew without a doubt, it was time to go find a new home. |
