Reading through the first section draft of Blackmarsh's code of law, Itannar nodded approvingly. Far from being offended or put off by it, his paladin instincts and devotion to lawfulness and justice were amply satisfied. Sometimes to rule an unruly people one had to be heavy-handed at times or make a few initial, harsh, examples out of miscreants so the rest would come to heel. He would watch proceedings carefully; he could always back out if things grew oppressive, though he did not think they would. He liked the mayor personally, and believed him to be a man of his word. He always took that tack with those he met, until and if events proved otherwise. Taking a pen and parchment, he wrote the following reply to the mayor:

"Dear Mayor Bracken,

Greetings.

I have read the laws you have so far written and I have found them quite acceptable. For myself, I am quite lawful in nature and heartily concur that order is necessary for the establishment and perpetuation of all good and decent things. Hence, I shall place Alderglen under these laws, to abide by and enforce them. I shall also agree to become a vassal of the Blackmarsh empire, to lend aid, serve, and protect it from all foes and threats to its security and the maintenance of the order it demands.

I have received the invitation to the coronation this eve and shall be honored to attend. Congratulations on the achievement. I shall pray daily for the success and peace of your reign.
