There was little noise outside, the night, for the most of parts, was incredibly silent. Such a serene moment in Northern Malas, past Sanctus, and Luna, to the Wolfs Den. The air smelled rich with fall, and even with the silence, Zari could not find rest that night. She lay awake, apprehensive and alone in her bed, one that she had once shared with her love, Mikhail, who had long since disappeared into the mists.

His disappearance was likely for one reason. His hypersensitive senses, having steadily driven him insane, and drove him away from his family. Her children, lay asleep in their rooms on the lower floor, nestled in their beds. Zari tossed and turned, yet her instincts kept her awake.

The time had been past midnight. The hours had moved by silently, with little notice. Yet, it was their screams that drove her from her bed, as she heard her children scream from down the stair. She had heard no door to the house open and close. She lunged from her bed, her body shifting form as she dashed towards the door, her body shifting, and twisting in form, her bones grinding against themselves as she took her form, the large wolf headed for the stairs. She leaped from the top, landing at the bottom with ease, turning to face the intruders, who stood in the center of the hall. There were three of them, dark cloaked and dark robed, the bodies of two of her children, in their pup forms, laying dead at their feet. The door to Zerins room remained closed.

She jumped at the nearest intruder, as battle insued, ripping the throat from him with relative ease, feeling the blade of a dagger graze the skin across her back, digging in. She howled in pain, forcing herself to drop the man from her massive jaws, turning to the one with the dagger. Her eyes watched it a moment, seeing no tinge of silver, as she chased towards him. Her massive paws landed against his back, his dagger digging into her forearm. She jerked herself away, letting it hang in her arm, as they began to bolt towards the door.

Zari sat up quickly from her nightmare, sweat rolling down her face. She wiped at her face slightly, biting into her bottom lip, drawing a bit of blood with her teeth. The nightmares still plagued her, the happenings of that night, so long ago. Yet there was less she could do. Two of three children were gone. Her husband, disappeared with little chance to return, and the last child grown up and off somewhere, searching for his father. The times had changed so dramatically. Life was so unsure. She stood, leaving her resting place, to walk the lands of Stonegate, her mind raveling with thought. She must meet with the Oracle, and the Wolf King, and learn the fate of her Father. Her life had become so upside down, little in itself to be sure of.

Yet, there was one thing that she was most sure of.

And that was:

“I am a MelGair.”
