Master Alaundril stood patiently before the two drow children, and repeated the series of hand gestures from the beginning, for what seemed like the thousandth time.

"Again," the old drow intoned.

Vryn found the silent code fascinating. His slender fingers mimicking the gestures deftly, and quickly. If Lord Gorhun had allowed it, he would, almost certainly, only communicated using the complicated code, but a great part of his teaching hinged upon the fact that the World Above was far too large and dangerous to allow for one dimensionality. Those who fell into such laxness would find themselves of no use, at best...dead at the worst, and soon.

Still,the males who taught Vryn referred to him as their "Silent Son."

Shri'hrae, however, did not take to the long sessions of sign language. Often would she decry her overpowering sense of boredom, or how cramped her hands were becoming.

Her complaints sometimes earning Vryn a harsh cuff, and an admonishment.

Of late, Shri'hrae seemed to have lost much of their prior lessons; her every gesture ever so slightly off. Sometimes so grossly inaccurate as to resemble what was being so meticulously taught in no way whatsoever.

When patience was exhausted, Mistress Felyn would rap her knuckles, and accuse her of outright obstinance...and each time Shri would cut her pretty violet eyes to Vryn and flash the ghost of a private smile.

Each time, Vryn would look confused and try his best to appear smaller,lest he too receive a smack.

Sighing loudly, as though trying to to be caught, Shri would sign to him with the most obvious of intent, and exaggerated rapidity until he finally understood.

Watching Master Alaundril, watching his Shri'hrae, Vryn had learned twice.

Under the watchful eyes of so many, The Princess had taught Her Poppet their own silent speech,
