Bursting through the double doors into the office of his recently appointed Buccaneer’s Den Viceroy, the Drow Lord’s mask holds a deep crimson hue.
“This cannot occur again Viceroy…” the drow states enraged, his body seeming to radiate with chaotic abyssal energy.
“I realize that this run was only to test the strength of their defenses, but I would have at least liked to have seen a bit of plunder from the endeavor,” Gorhun says as he paces in front of the Viceroy’s desk.
“This island and the pirating operations extending from it are your responsibility, and I will not have an event like yesterday happen again,” the Drow Lord says with a sharp tone to his voice.
“On the bright side of things…the merchants now know to be fearful of the water they have until now roamed free without trouble…Chaos is furthered…they do not know what to expect, and for that we are victorious…I wonder how Isk feels knowing that his precious trade now will have a hindrance...” Gorhun rambles on to himself as his mask becomes slightly less red.
“Viceroy, I applaud you for your spreading of Chaos, but the next time the drow venture forth from this island and stumble upon a Union vessel…I better see the spoils of your labor…,” the drow says grimly as he storms from the room.
Just as the drow exits the doors, he pauses momentarily and, as his mask becomes orange in hue, he looks back and says to the Viceroy in an almost jovial voice, “Congratulations on your recent appointment…Vhaeraun guide you, Viceroy Shri'hrae…” |

Quill in hand and poised mid-sentence she watched The Lord of the Drow pace back and forth in front of her desk.
“Viceroy, I applaud you for your spreading of Chaos, but the next time the drow venture forth from this island and stumble upon a Union vessel…I better see the spoils of your labor…,”
She listened as he berated the evenings efforts. Her mind replayed the timing of the the ships and the movements to and from each vessel with crystal clarity. This was indeed a first run, a test to see where they needed to improve. "And improve we will," she bit silently.
As his tirade ended she lingered on his words, “Congratulations on your recent appointment…Vhaeraun guide you, Viceroy Shri'hrae…” and the change of color in his mask. Orange, she had come to note was something almost entirely reserved for her. And only when he was what she deemed as "proud" of her.
"Thank you, Papa." But the words were a bare whisper and rang against the back of the door as it shut behind him. Somewhere within, Shri'hrae knew he didn't have to hear them to know they were there.
The night had brought about many new developments. There was discussion of the event soon to be held in Bucs Den, the Union raid, and her appointment as Viceroy. It was the first time she could recall being addressed fully as Shri'hrae Calamyr. The shroud of Q'uellar D'Alean'und still hung firmly in the backdrop. The disappearance of her Mother. Her Father's prominent step back into her life. Gorhun's firm guidance. Olath's relentless drills and the smile that reinforced them. Felyn's unconditional love. Grandpa's lessons in cutlery. And the undefineable Poppet. "Failure is not an option," she told herself silently. To fail herself meant failing The Drow. Gently running a finger of the mask she had so recently received she whispered, "The underdark will freeze before I let that happen." _________________ *Kitrye Ilhar's Yathrin, Kitrye Ilharn's Mirshann, Jal degahr* |
