She rode hard, like a bat out of hell. Zig-zagging across the road between Orclands and Cove, darting into the depth of the woods and out again, trying to get home. Stopping half a second to cast a spell might cost her her life, and so she kept up the race. The murderer was still chasing her and at one point thought he might have her, but then she saw it...a familiar house that marked the beginning of DarkCove. Now on her home ground, she was able to move much faster and able to lose her pursuer quickly.
Ditto was safe, but she still rode just as hard towards home. She didnt' slow down even when she saw the top of Armunn keep and when she jumped off her mount, she ran on her feet through the door, not stopping until she nearly ran over a servant in the upper hallway. Smiling apologetically to the young woman, Ditto wasn't aware that her clothes, still very wet, were dripping on the floor. The young servant lass had seen alot of strange things since coming to work in this house, and was becoming use to her Lady's odd behaviour, but the sight of her lady standing before her now was shocking. Ditto was obviously wet though the weather was clear, her hair tousled, small scratches, and fresh bleeding bruises covered her. Ditto however was not thinking of the bloodname's attack that had caused her injuries. That was normal behavior for his type, and she was too upset about other things to feel the aches and pains at the moment.
"Lady Armunn! Your...should I send for someone?"
The usually cheerful Ditto only shook her head and mumbled "I will be fine", as she walked around the girl and went into the bedchamber.
Once inside the room, she walked over and sat down on the polarbear rug and faced the warmth of the fireplace. Hugging her knees, she pulled them up under chin and rocked back and forth. She was not ever going to leave this room again.
It was times like this, times of calamity, that she thought that there was such a thing as too much Chaos. Her day had gone from bad to worse and ended in a disastrous meeting with Balbanes. His voice echoing in her memory as to some of the last things he'd said after the....incident.
Ditto groaned in utter despair. Tarothin was going to be furious at her. If there was ever a time he would ever consider killing his wife to put her out of his misery, it would be tonight when he got home. There was no avoiding anything at this point. Disobeying his wishes about leaving to try to capture the kidnapper, having no guards with her at times, and now this latest thing. She would face Taro and tell him what she'd done. She loved him too much to lie to him, so she wouldn't even try. Looking down at herself and noticing for the first time the mess she must look, Ditto scrunched up her nose. She couldn't face him like this!
An hour or so later, a freshly bathed Ditto lay on her tummy on the rug by the fire, her legs bent upwards and crossed at the ankles while she ate from a plate of fresh fish and fruits. 'Living entirely in this room wouldn't be so terrible awful', she pondered. Again she remembered the reason she'd decided to keep herself locked up and an annoying look crossed her pouty features. 'It's na my fault he didna dodge.' Popping a strawberry into her mouth, she continued her thoughts. ' How was I suppose ta know that he wasna trying ta beat me? Mister Balbanes isna exactly known for kindness. He shoulda just stayed...well...evil, and let me choke or drown and I n'ver woulda punched him there. No heirs. Bah! I am just a lil mage. I could nau have done that much damage! He was just bein a baby is all. Men can be babies about the oddest of things.'
No matter how hard she tried to argue herself into a different state, it didn't work. Ditto still felt terrible guilt about hurting the man so. He had said he had accepted her apology, but with his back turned to her and his leaving so quickly out the door, she couldn't be sure. She was very afraid indeed that she had started a war. _________________ **************************************

Walking into the bedroom after yet another day spent in his study, writing, planning and debating on a few matters, he saw Ditto. This time she was laying on the bear rug next to the fireplace with a mostly empty plate of fish and fruit in front of her. Ditto after hearing him enter was looking at him in one of those 'I did something bad, but she was going to be hesitent on telling me look'. She did a sad sounding, "Hiya cutie..." It seemed that she was about to tell me more. But instead she then looked to the plate in front of her and started to randomly move food around on the plate like she was trying to decide which one to eat next, but really wasn't going to pick up anything.
Thinking that she realized that I know about her being up to something the night before and how her skirt got ripped. As I was slipping off my cloths I said, "So, do you have anything to say for yourself about the other night? Ripped skirt and the Ink Smudge on your face?" Still playing with the food she said without turning to look at me, "Na...*sighs*...yea" Then she turned her head and was about to speak, but that I had my hand up shaking my head. "Ditto. Nothing happened to you the other night but please don't do it again. I know I cannot control you like I can with others. But I also don't want to see you hurt. I forgive you, now let's just go to bed."
I finished slipping out of my cloths at this point and started walking to the bed. Ditto was starting to say, "But, that's na' it." And that is when I noticed the dirty and seemingly damp cloths a little off to the side. Ditto following his gaze cringed and closed her eyes preparing herself for the tongue lashing she had thought she was going to hear just a little while ago. But none came. Opening one eye before the other she saw Tarothin walk over to the cloths and enspect them and then look to her and....he just waited.
I just waited there looking at her. Thinking on what possibly could have she been up tonight. Most likely the same as last night. "Ditto...would you please explain to me everything that you have been up to the last few nights?"

An hour later Ditto had told him all that has been going on, not being able to keep anything from him when he knows she has been up to something. While hearing of everything a slight smile cracked on his lips once. Ditto sorry for everything was in his arms holding onto him.
"I had already made plans to meet with Balbanes over a few things. Now it seems like I have a few more things to discuse with him. Let us see how thing play off shall we?"
Pushing her away gently he walked towards the beedroom door. "I have another letter to write. I shall join you in a moment." |
