"Reacquaint yourself with this, mijo." Ancyous tossed the tome to his brother. "Perhaps it will help define boundaries that have become indistinct."

The worn leather binding rested softly within Kaylor's grasp as the small brown book landed in his handhold. Code of Honour, Knights Templar. "This was my father's . . . " Stopping mid-sentence, he realized himself suddenly alone, Ancyous having silently taken his leave.

He drew a deep breath and lowered to his knees. There was little need to read, for the book's contents were well known to him. Obedience. Poverty. Chastity.

Father forgive me. My path wavers far from your Holy road. I make no excuse for my choices, but neither care I to appear a heretic in your eyes. I have sworn service to my faith and yet blaspheme my vows to great extent. I cannot marry and continue to call myself Templar. The depth of my devotion needs must be focused upon you, upon Faerwhynne, upon Stonegate and, upon my life Holy Father, so it shall be!

Surely Fiona did not mean to imply she should be placed above the Lord. He knew she felt hurt, but certainly she possessed more grace than that. If she truly ever cared for him she would understand, but if not there was little he could do. She was a good woman and deserved more than he would have been capable of providing her. He sighed as he took his leave, resigned to put the situation behind him without further thought.
