On a secluded island, south of Moonglow...

A ten-year-old Felyn Calamyr sat across the table from her mother, Elinal'ha. She looked Felyn over, trying to decide how to answer her daughter's question. Felyn's small white hands were folded neatly in her lap. Her long white hair was tightly braided and then smoothed down with wax so it would stay in place. Elinal'ha looked down into her daughter's ice blue eyes, which matched her own. Felyn looked back at her, waiting patiently for a response.

"Ten' lye aa' il ilyamenie irma sina vee' lye eska." Elinal'ha said cautiously.

"Mankoi il? Amin ve' ta sinome" Felyn asked, smiling.

Elinal'ha briefly returned her daughter's warm smile and, for a moment, allowed herself to forget those who would cause them harm. Her smile faded as quickly as it came, causing Felyn's to disappear as well.

"Amin irma lye varna." Elinal'ha finally said.

"Lye ier il varna sinome?" Felyn asked, alarmed.

"Lye aa' auta tuulo' sina tol a' Moonglow." Elinal'ha replied, ignoring her daughter's question.

"Nau!" Felyn cried out in Drow.

While Elinal'ha was fluent in Drow, she usually spoke Elvish with her daughter since Alaundril and Drayden almost exclusively spoke Drow. Whenever Felyn was upset, she would instinctively revert to Drow. Felyn blinked, realizing her outburst, and took only a second to compose herself.

"Edanea ier eller." Felyn said with a hint of disgust.

"Lle atar kwentra lle sina, uma?" Elinal'ha gritted her teeth.

Felyn paused, not knowing how she should answer. She hated lying to her mother but Alaundril always insisted that his teachings be kept secret, especially from Elinal'ha.

"Vendui'." Alaundril said to them as he walked over gracefully and leaned down to kiss Elinal'ha on the cheek. As his lips touched his wife's skin, he knew immediately that something was wrong. She had tensed slightly when he kissed her. To her credit, an untrained man would have been oblivious. Alaundril's eyes immediately went to his daughter. He began reading her.

She looked relieved by his presence. Elinal'ha must have been asking questions again. Felyn did not betray him. That much was certain. He decided then that he would reward Felyn for her loyalty to him.

"Felyn doer xuil uns'aa. Ol zhah draeval whol dos ulu screa sel faer." Alaundril said evenly.

"Siyo, ilharn." Felyn could barely contain her excitement but she was careful to use the same muted tone as her father.

"Vok ulu dosst dalninuk, Felly." Elinal'ha said in Drow as a formal courtesy to Alaundril.

"Zuch." Felyn said, smiling once before she left with Alaundril.

"Because we may not always want this as our home." Elinal'ha said cautiously.

"Why not? I like it here." Felyn asked, smiling.

Elinal'ha briefly returned her daughter's warm smile and, for a moment, allowed herself to forget those who would cause them harm. Her smile faded as quickly as it came, causing Felyn's to disappear as well.

"I want us safe." Elinal'ha finally said.

"We are not safe here?" Felyn asked, alarmed.

"We may go from this isle to Moonglow." Elinal'ha replied, ignoring her daughter's question.

"No!" Felyn cried out in Drow.

"Humans are there." Felyn said with a hint of disgust.

"Your father tells you this, yes?" Elinal'ha gritted her teeth.

Felyn paused, not knowing how she should answer. She hated lying to her mother but Alaundril always insisted that his teachings be kept secret, especially from Elinal'ha.

"Greetings." Alaundril said to them as he walked over gracefully and leaned down to kiss Elinal'ha on the cheek. As his lips touched his wife's skin, he knew immediately that something was wrong. She had tensed slightly when he kissed her. To her credit, an untrained man would have been oblivious. Alaundril's eyes immediately went to his daughter. He began reading her.

"Felyn come with me. It is time for you to learn new magic." Alaundril said evenly.

"Yes, father." Felyn could barely contain her excitement but she was careful to use the same muted tone as her father.

"Listen to your brother, Felly." Elinal'ha said in Drow as a formal courtesy to Alaundril.

"Always." Felyn said, smiling once before she left with Alaundril.
