Beneath my feet and spreading out in every direction lush green grass covered the ground. Every tree wore a cloak of fresh leaves. Every fern unfurled bright, new fronds. It was life in great abundance. And then a spasm seized me. A thousand splintering cracks rushed through the boughs. A harsh sound like the breaking of ice reverberated throughout the surrounding forest. A wave of decay consumed the beauty and all that remained in its wake was death.
The night began in its usual manner. I donned the mask and raced into the road. But then it began anew, the now too familiar tension and pain. A fight hard fought within quickly lost to the darkness. Next thing I knew corpses lay at my feet, my gauntlets sanguine soaked and the edge of my axe blade dripping crimson. My pockets filled with silver obtained without memory, I rode straight for Stonegate horrified by the atrocity left behind.
How do I stop what increasingly moves beyond my grasp, beyond my control? I no longer partake of the potions and yet the evil inside me waxes ever more powerful with each passing hour. This venture was taken up with hope of defeating the wretched curse laid upon my realm through its heir. I dare not lose faith in my victory, but now I have killed innocents in cold blood and to what end? God forgive me.
Adding to the chaos . . . Acacia. What fate led her return to this facet of my life? I cannot help but recall the jealousy which fostered her betrayal and thus my fall from grace with Everthorne, her attack upon my brother Ancyous that left him eternally a Lycan, her love for a Templar turned by unwillingness to believe in his strength and her own control. We share much history, this woman and I, however history is exactly what it is and what it shall remain, for I have no desire to re-live nor create more with her. Our lives no longer intertwine. I pray she discovers in Stonegate the serenity that seems ever to evade her.
When the sun meets the moon at the edge of the horizon you will find the key. I've written The Oracle's words for the Wolf King as he requested of me.
This dangerous game is a torrent of unexpected developments. _________________ *Even if you be otherwise perfect, you fail without humility. ~ The Talmud* |

Unpredictable, the potential of accidental fatality was fast becoming far too great a risk. He would visit the theater no more, send word that he required no further 'protection', for in truth there was no external power in either of his two worlds capable of what must be done. Unlike any battle he'd previously faced, this fight was his alone. _________________ *Even if you be otherwise perfect, you fail without humility. ~ The Talmud* |
