The problem was that Merci stood out in a crowd. Not for good reasons either. A woman of her height was easily seen and her blue hair didnt help any. While at many times her height had been a blessing she also knew it had made her a prime target in past battles.
She stepped away from her house and headed into luna, intent to purchase a few items before heading to the tavern. An odd feeling swept over her as she stopped by the provisioner picking up a few blank books for her writings later. In fact the feeling was so strong, the hairs on the back of her neck stood up. She never doubted her senses. She turned pulling her hood up over her blue hair and looked at the crowded marketplace, nothing was off.
The Luna marketplace was as it ever was sadly, the city filled with merchants bent on selling thier wares. The warmth of the area from so many bodies packed into small areas was annoying but no comparison to the feeling that something was not right.
Leaving Luna she took a gate to Tokuno and gladly landed within the safety of the Blue Lotus's lands. Perhaps she should stop in and tell her husband of her odd feeling. It was but a few moments, later as she headed for the teahouse that she got the very direct feeling that she was being watched. This time it was not just a vague sensation of something out of place, it was a very clear feeling. She shook herself, of course she was being watched The Soke had his men constantly vigilant in the shadows. Perhaps there were even three or four different shadows that new of her presence.
She was being silly. How could anyone have known she was coming thru the gate to Tokuno.... With that bit of rationalization firm in her head she decided that perhaps a tavern was not the place for her tonight, perhaps it best that she headed home.
The cold mountain air hitting her, the night quiet, she felt great relief as the Meadhall came into view, home wasnt far now. It was at that moment that whizzing past her ear came an arrow, her instincts on par, she ducked out of the way as it slammed instead with great force into the door of the Meadhall. The wood splintering a bit she didnt think, sword drawn, heart pounding she spun to the direction of the arrow and ran towards it. Yet there was nothing, no person, no footprints.. Nothing. No lingering scent for her to trail. Just silence.
Returning to retrieve the arrow produced no luck as it was gone as well, Perhaps she was going mad, hypersensitive. She stared at a small mark on the tavern door, was that where the arrow had been or was it simply a past mark upon the door. She wasnt sure, began to doubt herself and wasnt sure if her clan would even believe her.
She shook her head.. regardless, she had to tell Myrddin, if she was going insane it best he knew now not in the middle of their next battle. She smiled wryly at that. _________________ May destiny guide you... |
