Korin had taken his mothers words to heart. Instead of sitting around thinking so much he picked up his weapons and headed out of Stonegate Valley, to kill something. Korin spent the next several hours in Ice doing battle with the numerous creatures that reside there. Only after his pack was full of gold and jewels, and his arms so tired from swinging his halberd did he finally emerge from his frozen battle ground. Stepping out into the bright sunlight Korin was blinded its bright rays stabbing at his eyes that had gotten accustom to the dim light of Ice dungeon. Korin sat on his mount waiting for his eyes to grow use to the light.
A voice came from some trees, directly in front of Korin. “Step down off that horse and cut lose your bags.” there was a short pause as whispering came from the group of trees. “Then remove your armor and step back into the cave there!”
Korin still not able to see clearly raised his free hand to shield his eyes while his right hand gripped the shaft of his halberd tighter. “And whom may I ask is giving me these orders.” Korin ask of the trees.
“Who I am does not matter, the fact that I have forty men at my command ready to kill you is what matters!” the same voice said out of the trees.
Another voice came out of the trees “Forty?, There are only three of us.” the voice was quiet but it carried farther than the speaker intended.
“Shut up, Davis!” came the first voice again. There was a brief scuffle in the trees and the sound of punches landing and a groan.
Korin sat on his horse a little more at ease now, deciding that he would have fun with the three would be brigands. “Gentlemen are you going to argue amongst yourselves or are you going to rob me?” He ask faking impatience. “You do know that I am a busy man and really would like to get on with dispatching you before the sun sets.” Korin adjusted his armor for show as he spoke.
The first voice came out of the trees again but not quite as confident as before. “We still have you out numbered.”
“Yes you do but I think I like my odds.” Korin said
There was a brief discussion in the trees, Korin could only make out a few words here and there but guess that it was about his armor and weapon.
The first voice came out of the trees again. Louder than it owner had intended. “He is mounted on horse back caring a halberd, everybody knows that is a foot solider s weapon.” Then a third voice came out. “yeah lets rush him, You two first”
The three men stepped from the tree line Korin tried hard not to laugh at them as they approached him weapons drawn. The leader was very over weight and carried a short sword that looked as it had had no attention to its care for years. The second was tall and lanky he carried a short spear in on hand and a buckler in the other he had a Norse helm on his head but no other armor. The last one out was a young lad who carried a Long sword and had a breast plate that looked to be to big for him.
Just as Korin had made up his mind to attack the fat one in the middle made a strange face and toppled over forward. Two arrows protruding from his back. Korin's eyes started scanning the trees, looking for any signs of this new threat.
Korin heard it before he saw it. A bola coming out of the treeline aimed right at his head. Korin managed to get the blade of his halberd between himself and the weapon before it struck. The blade cutting one of the balls lose before they hit. The force of the impact knocked Korin's halberd back into his face. Korin recoiled and found himself falling backwards. Now Korin played out his fall in his mind and planned on laying back onto his horses rump then flipping his feet over his head so that he landed on his feet on the ground with his horse between him and the unseen attacker. But as normally happens all great plans have a flaw. Korin was not sure if his horse moved or his foot caught in the stirup or if his plan was just that flawed to start with. Korin found himself falling with his feet up in the air. He tucked his chin and braced himself for impact.
Landing soundly on his shoulders and neck, Korin tasted blood immediately as his chest peace met with his chin. The air was forced out of his lungs as his lower body came down on his upper body and folded over so that his feet rested above his head on the ground. Bright lights formed at the edges of korin's vision and quickly spread across his whole field of veiw. Then darkness crept up on him. |

Part 2 dealing with drow
Korin awoke slowly as if coming out of a deep fog. Slowly the everything came back to him. He found it strange that he was no longer on his back but laying face down in soft grass. He could still taste the blood in his mouth. He slowly opened his eyes. It was late afternoon the sun was starting to set Korin could see a woman squatting next to a fire she was building. Korin tried to move his hands up to his face but he found them tied behind his back. Korin rolled onto his side and worked his way up to a sitting position. Korin sat there watching the woman tending the fire, as he worked at his rope bindings
She was slim had very dark skin and long white hair. She wore very little in the way of clothing. A cloth hanging from her belt was all that covered her back side and from the thin strap across her back Korin knew that the front had not much more covering. He could also see a dagger on her belt and a elvish sword laying just with in her reach.
Korin had just about freed his hands when she turned to look at him. He froze, not moving a muscle. She pivoted on the balls of her feet grabbing her blade as she remained crouched. She wrapped one arm around her knee and then the other with her blade in one hand its tip resting on her shoulder. Korin had been right her clothing in front was not much more than that in the back. Her breast were all but exposed her whole midsection was bare and only a thin strip of cloth covered up her most sensitive parts.
Korin smile as the two sat there sizing each other up. The female drow said something to Korin in her native tongue and Korin could not make it out. He knew he should have payed more attention to learning the drow language. But to his surprise She in turned began to speak common.
“I though you were going to sleep all day” she said with her head tilted eying him closely.
“Oh so you speak common” Korin ask?
She smiled then shook her head “No brain.” She looked a little disappointed. “Had such high hopes for you.”
Korin looked at her puzzled, “What does that mean?” Korin then noticed for the first time that he was the only one there with her. “Where are the others that were here?”
The drow female looked around then with out changing her facial exspression. “ The fat one is dead, the other two are on there way to the underdark.” she looked at him “Where they friends?'
Korin shook his head “no.”
She stood up and moved a little closer to Korin “We did not think they were friendly towards you that is why we killed the fat one you were the one we really wanted.'
“Me?” Korin looked at her, “Why me?”
“ You will make good breading stock for the matriarch, Then when she is finished with you a good slave for the pens.” she said as she watched him
Korin began to laugh and this pissed her off. From a crouched position she swung her right leg and foot forward. The top of her foot finding Korin's cheekbone and sending him over onto his side.
“Why do you laugh, do you know what is in store for you?” she shouted at him
“Breeding stock Me, you have it all wrong I am half human.” Korin said looking up at her.
I am not Drow well only half.”
The female looked down at him for a long moment “We will let the Matriarch decide for herself. Maybe you will just go down to the pens.
Korin had felt the ropes give when he went over on his side but he kept his hands clasp behind his back. He watched as this female drow study him closely. He watched as she stood up looking down at him. Then she turned and walked back to the fire. Just before Korin made his move to sit up she turned around. “do you know why you are still here.” she said with a smile.
“I guess I was to heavy to carry while I was out.” Korin replied.
“ Well that was my reason to the others.” she moved towards him again. Her hands moved up to her sides. “Do you find me attractive?”
Korin looked at her and followed her hands as they moved against her skin. “Not really.” he lied
Korin had seen that look before in a woman, that look they get when they just heard something they did not like.
“what is wrong with my body” she demanding her voice loud and almost on the point of a shriek.
Korin saw this as and opportunity. “ Would you have me answer that honestly or shall I lie to you to make you feel better about yourself?”
“The truth.!” she screamed.
Korin sat back up “Well” he started eyeing her body up then down as she stood there with her hands on her hips. Korin could see her nostrils flaring as she breathed and figured a few well placed insults should work. “Honestly, Your breasts are too small, hips to wide and you are a bit on the heavy side for my tastes.”
The kick that was thrown this time was expected. Korin grabbed her ankle as he fell back pulling her extended leg forward causing her to do a type of splits. She was falling now but Korin had underestimated his opponent once again. As she fell she turned in mid air. Landing hard against Korin. The two struggled for a few moments until Korin drawing one of her daggers and placing it against her throat. Finally thought he had the upper hand.
“Now would you please get off me slowly.” he asked while pressing the blade of her dagger to her throat.
“You are a strange male.” she started looking down into his eyes. “You have a creature like me ontop of you almost naked and yet you want me to get off.” she tipped her head a little as if she was going to try and kiss him. “Do you know how many males would kill to be in your spot right now?”
Korin pushed up on the dagger, he could feel little droplets of her blood dripping onto his chin. “I do not want to hurt you, but I will kill you if you do not get off me.!”
the Drow female pulled back a bit, as if she was going to give in. Then Korin felt the sharp point of a knife. It was not at his throat and Korin was not sure how far the blade would penatrate before the ringmail of his leggings would stop it. Or if those rings would stop it at all but he knew that his chances of being a father depended on how he handles the next few seconds.
Clearing his throat a bit “It seems we are at an impasse at the moment.” He backed up on the pressure of the blade against her throat.
“So it does” she said with a evil smile on her face. |

It had been two days, that Korin had been held captive by this drow female. Korin had tormented her and had recieved several bumps and bruises for it. But as he knelt at the waters edge looking at his reflection in the blue water, he smiled.
Winching from the pain that smiling caused his busted lip, and bruised jaw. Korin thought back on the past two day. Leaning farther over he took handfuls of the cool water and splashed on his face. The cut that ran from above his left eye down across his eye and ended at the corner of his mouth was the worst of his wounds. He was sure it needed to be sticthed up and he would have it looked at shortly. The bite mark on his right cheek would heal he hoped.
Korin turned and looked at the Drow female her body laying where it had fallen. Korin stood and walked over to her, knelt and checked her breathing. She was still alive, and the cut caused by the rock korin had hit her with had stopped bleeding. Korin drug her body up under some bushes. He gathered all her belongings and placed them beside her. Taking a Stonegate blue cloak out from his pack he covered her up and then using her sword cut brush and covered her up.
Finally after being satisfied no one would find her like this Korin made to leave. Korin took maybe ten steps then turned back to look at the spot where he had hidden her body. Something strange was happening inside Korin, For as much as he wanted to be rid of this woman he did not want to leave her like this.
Korin turned back to check on her one more time. Then forced himself to walk away.
Korin thought hard about the two days he had been held prisioner and decide that no one needed to know all the details. With that thought he openned his book and made for Stonegate valley. |
