Quinn,

I need to talk to you. Meet me tonight at eight bells at the Stonegate mead hall.

Peck, peck, peck....PECK, PECK!

"Annnnnsel stop...." Quinn's voice was muffled, her face buried in the pillow. Her long black waves spilled carelessly over the pillow and her shoulders. Her black-ribboned mask lay face up on the other pillow.

PECK. PECK. PECK.

"It's barely daylight, you wretched pecking beast!" Harlequin lifted her head with a sigh. "Fine, fine. Let's get you outside." The pied crow waited until Quinn's hand was on the door latch before he took flight from the windowsill, where the thick frost on the windowpane was riddled with peck marks. She barely got the door open quickly enough, as Ansel fired out of the door like an arrow.

At her feet on the doorstep lay a parchment scroll, along with a hastily scrawled note from her neighbour across the valley. It read simply "Quinn - Found an owl carrying this scroll. Going out on a limb to guess it's for you. Come get some apples later today, so they don't just go to rot on the ground. ~Anthony"

Quinn shut the door and eyed the scroll narrowly as she wrapped a black satin dressing robe around her thin white nightgown. She stoked the fire until the flames licked up over the logs merrily, then returned to the scroll and read Korin's message.

"What a charming invitation, Korin d'Rue." Quinn grinned broadly. "When you word it so sweetly, how can I possibly refuse?"

Quinn took out a sheet of clean white parchment and a quill, and quickly penned a response.

Lord Korin d'Rue,

I'll see you tonight. Though with your dashing and debonair invitation, you've thrown me completely into a tizzy. I haven't a thing to wear.

Most Sincerely,
Quinn

Harlequin went to the door and peered outside at the pied crow hopping around, chasing a cricket. "Ansel....I have a task for you..."
