Zerin watched the latest test subject and the former vagrant just stared back impassively as he had been for hours. The original spell had been simple enough to reverse as it simply covered parts of the subject's personality with new ones that could be removed. However, the constant need to learn more and improve had gotten the better of Zerin and driven him to attempt a true replacement of personalities instead. The alterations went well every time, but each time he tried replacing what he had stored of their original selves, it resulted in the new personality being wiped out and the old still wouldnt take root. What was left was a husk of a person with absolutely no free will, personality, or independent thought. There was no question in Zerin's mind that more attempts would need to be made, as a true replacement would be far more stable, not to mention harder to detect, than merely masking. All that needed to be done before the experiments could continue was to decide what to do with the latest failure. |
