Zeth sat in the back of his cave a wolf pup sitting in his lap, he absently stroked the young pups head as he sorted out his feelings. Lost in thought he had not noticed that the cough that normally racked his body had all but stopped. He had left Stonegate Valley with an empty flask and a full stomach. Once back in the cave he had refilled his flask and sat back. But as of yet he had not taken a drink from the flask that normally he drank from at least twice an hour.
Zeth needed fresh air, so placing the wolf pup beside its mother Zeth stooped and walked out of the cave. Standing on the ledge he looked down into the snow covered valley. As Zeth stood there a hungry that he had not felt in a long time crept up from the pit of his stomach. Zeth knew he was not physically hungry he had consumed more than enough ribs that afternoon to fill any mans stomach. This was something entirely different.
Zeth closed his eyes and let this hunger fully engulf him. For the first time in a long time Zeth felt the changes happening to him. His face was growing longer and his hair was growing. Zeth openned his eyes and was looking at the world from a lower perspective. The Air seemed full of smells and the world around him not so cold.
It took him a few minutes to get readjusted to his tale as he bound down the path leading up to the cave. He ran with a purpose now. Zeth had missed the freedom this form had given him in years past. He ran for what seemed hours until he had to stop to figure out where he was. It all smelled familiar and looked just as he had remembered it.
Zeth found himself on the road leading into Umbra. And he knew that where he wanted to be was just around the next bend in the road. Zeth with his belly low to the ground crept through the trees. The smell was like a drug luring him ever closer. One last bush hid Zeth from them, The Elven brigands who made there camp beside the road. In years past this had been His and her favorite place to catch a meal but now she was gone and this was not for food but to sustain another hunger inside him.
Pulling his hind legs up under him Zeth prepared to attack. On his first pass through the camp Zeth left two laying on the ground screaming and one still standing but dead with his throat ripped out his body just not giving up yet. Zeth made three more passes through the camp before his hunger for blood was satisfied. He turned once and looked back at the carnage he had left. Zeth stopped and cleaned himself as he lay in the bushes beside the road. Then he made his way back towards Stonegate Valley.
He thought he would stop in and check on his new found friend. _________________
