Rhylcice was smaller than her twin brother Xunafein. The time spent in the womb was torturous at best due to his constant kicking and moving. By all rights, she should not have survived. But she did survive. She heard her mother's teaching in the womb. She heard them as a baby after the birth. Rhylcice was growing up fast as was her twin. Her brother enjoyed brutalizing anything he could bite into, including her, her mother, her mothers servants, and even his father if given the chance. Ryhlcice was always one to stay back and chose to instead, be observant. She would listen to the teachings of Lloth. She also had a knack for picking up on words, both good and bad, common and drow.
Such was the case when she and Xunafein had crawled into the Temple of Lloth because they heard yelling. It was their bigger sister Kor'inth and a strange man. Kor'inth was yelling at him for something. It was spiders!. Apparently, he had upset Kor'inth badly. Then he made the worst mistake ever. Even the twins both knew Kor'inth's temper when it came to her hair. Next thing they witnessed was Kor'inth biting the man and he fell to the floor quite limp. The word that Kor'inth spoke next stuck in little Rhylcice's mind. "Vith!" How truly fun this word sounded to her little mind but she would wait to let mother hear it. The twins watched Kor'inth dash out upset. Rhylcice and Xunafein crawled over to the fallen man where Xunafein proceded in biting everywhere he could find exposed skin. Rhylcice crawled next to the body and lifted his hand as high as she could, then let it drop. She continued to do this even as her mother, father, Kelly, and bigger sister returned.
Her mother had quickly scooped up both children, passing her brother to Kelly. Rhylcice didn't understand everything that had gone on in the next minutes. There was much yelling and crying and...begging. Rhylcice knew that tone. Then there was a pause in the chaos in which Rhylcice showed everyone she learned a new word from Kor'inth. Her brother repeated the word too. After all was said and done, Rhylcice had learned many things. She learned not to say words like "Vith" and "Iblith" as they were bad words.
The days and nights that followed were routine. Rhylcice was put through Llothian education. She learned of the other Drow Gods and Goddesses. She found she had a natural tendancy toward magic when she pain spiked a servant during a fit then followed it with a magic arrow to make her point. Rhylcice also fancied weapons as well as she grew. She found that keeping something solid by her, be it stick, club, knife, or cleaver, tended to keep Xunafein off her.
What Rhylcice didn't know much of was wide world around her. Despite being showed around it still didn't really sink in as just how big the world was. She couldn't wait to be big enough to explore. On several occasions she had slipped out from her mother's home and crawled off to explore. There was so much to see! So much to touch!
She was growing fast now, her pale blue eyes a vivid contrast to her ebon skin and white hair. Her small frame hiding a stubbornness and toughness beyond reason. Her mind was a sponge, soaking up knowledge as it came to her. She knew the family friends. Both she and her brother had been tucked away from their foes so she didn't know them. She had been taught of them. She was also being educated on other things, like her lineage. At least her mother's side. Rhylcice had been born with a set of fangs, tiny as they were. She knew she had to have blood, her cravings told her. But on the other hand she could also eat and drink normal foods. Her father was Ian Nottingham. She saw him often and he gave her lots of yummy vials to drink. But she didn't really understand. She had decided to ask him next time she saw him. Her mother was the Matron Kal'iksix Viaxus. She knew all about the drow, but she wanted to know more of her father.
As the next years went by, Rhylcice tended to be more shy, quiet, and reserved. However she was very observant. Her slender figure was beginning to show more curves as she grew a little more. She was now the equivallant to an nine or ten year old human child. She was right around the four foot range in height and very light in weight. Her hair had taken on a more silvery hue, looking more like it had been kissed by the full moon. She held herself tall and proud as her lineage and upbringing had taught her. But her eyes held a curiosity and mischief streak in them begging her to get out. And out she did go. Often sneaking through the streets of Umbra, Vesper and Minoc on her own. |
