It had been a calm day at sea. Singular and scarce the breezes had drifted Freedom's Willcall where it wanted. With her hands behind her head, Meegan lay on the deck soaking in the sun and enjoying the laziness she had experienced. Solitary moments had become the norm and she was thankful for that. They allowed her to daydream, and daydreaming was one of the things she did best. Her eyes closed the images of New Magincia.. of the rebuilding of the city darted happily in and out of her thoughts. New stones being placed.. new plants being grown.. and the mounds and mounds of fish that had shown up on the docks.

But thoughts and times had a way of changing and in a split second her beautiful dreams were shattered by an incoming cannon ball. Up with a start she raced to load one of her own.. her hazel eyes settling on the encroaching ship of deep black.

"You!" It was all she managed to get out. Between the torrent of magic and the rain of lead it was over quickly. Freedoms Willcall broke and twisted beneath the wake of the now departing ship. Not far from where she had been just moments before in peaceful dreams, Meegan lay bent and broken like her beloved vessel. Her leather skirt ripped and smudged with smoke, her armor cut from the flying debris dripped crimson. Blackened fingers curled and clutched at the match cord in her hand, tightening as if it would change anything.

They say your life flashes before your eyes when you die.. but what Meegan saw was not the past.. but the future that may have been and now would not. She should have been able to feel the water as it filled her lungs and dragged her even farther down. But she felt only the sand between her toes and the heat of the sun on her skin.

Somewhere between Magincia and Serpents Hold, on the bottom of the sea floor lay Freedom's Willcall. Somewhere between Magincia and Serpents Hold, on the bottom of the sea floor Meegan Cates, Captain of her ship and her life would forever be....

It was a cool, breezy evening in New Magincia. Bella was walking the shores of the island with her shoes off, feeling the cool sand between her toes as the cool water passed over her feet. She smiled as she thought of recent days - the rebuilding of Magincia, the celebration which was in full swing, and how she and Lord Cuthbert were getting closer.

As she walked along the southern end of the island, she came across something that made the smile vanish from her face and flashed her face pale. A pendant with a deep red stone. There is only one person in all of Sosaria who she knows wears this all the time and would never leave home without it - Meegan. Bella picked up the pendant in her hand, shaking as terrible thoughts ran through her mind. Suddenly she realizes that she had not seen Meegan at any of the events of the celebration the last few nights, more specifically at the boat race. Meegan loves to sail and would never miss an opportunity... And then it hit her.

Bella looked out to the sea in silence, tears streaming down her cheeks. Something terrible and unspeakable must have happened to Meegan. This was one of the first friends she had made since leaving her home of Moonglow. Meegan had showed her how to sail, how to grow beautiful plants, most of all, how to be a good friend. Now she is gone, all that is left is her pendant.

Bella reached into her pocket and pulled out a red seed. She kneeled down, and pushed it into the ground. Quietly, she said a prayer, and said goodbye. As she stood up, she took one last look out to sea. At least Meegan was at sea, the one place in the world she loved the most. Next time Bella would go sailing, she would know Meegan was the one giving her the wind to fill her sails. With that final thought, Bella turned and headed back to the guild hall, pendant in hand, and a look of deep sadness in her eyes.
