A reflecting pool holding to the image of the Moon sits at the feet of Rufus Oryan. This night, a calm night carrying no ill winds, or harsh wordings, he stands amidst many thoughts. For moments he stands before the clear waters, allowing his mind to wander. It had been only a few nights since he last slept in Nujel’m. Twas one of the few places where he still truly felt at home. As clouds slowly drifted overhead, the Regent stood motionless, pondering on the fate of nations, peoples, and the inhabitants of Sosaria and its many realms. His mind raced, lap after lap of consciousness; a consciousness that allowed him to conjure some of the most trying decisions concerning the Regency. “Nights have passed, and my emotions have stopped me from tackling the issues needed. I owe the Loyalists a Fealty Ceremony. I promised that they would indeed have a body to declare their loyalties to, nay to me…but the spirit that I represent, The spirit of the Regency.”
While Rufus argued with himself over his recent decisions, his ideals of right and wrong, and his thoughts on the Loyalists feelings, the silence of his meditation was broken. The sound of light footsteps entered Rufus’s right ear, he sensed a calm soul about him, amidst all the confusion that rages on within him. He reached to his right eye, and brushed the marking underneath. Before his hand could fall to his side again, he was nay alone…
“Hello my love.” Sarah said softly with a smile crossing her lips. Rufus humbly lowered his head a bit, still facing the pool; “I fear I do not tell you I love you enough, my queen. The lack of my wording weights heavy upon my heart. For most oft, you are my inspiration, the thing that holds me still in a storm of decisions and a racing mind.” Rufus could feel Sarah’s eyes lower to the grass beneath her feet, “My love, There is nay a time I am unaware of your love for me. I do know where you belong, and wish I could see you with each sun rise…but alas, you are so busy.” Sarah let out a quick sigh, muttering some elven words under her breath. Rufus raised his head, and turned slowly to his wife, “Tis which each nights slumber, and each awakening as the sun reaches my brow that I long to be with you. That I long for the Isle of Nujel’m…” Sarah raised her hand, placing it at her husband’s cheek, “You have quite a bit to tend to. Your place is with the peoples you represent in the Regency. They need you. To wish for you alone would be selfish, and I know of the changes you have made and your honest love for those you wish to aid.”
Rufus slowly placed his hands at Sarah’s small waist, and glared into her enchanting eyes, “At times, I truly pray upon my position…and if I am where I should be. I could not imagine myself nay sharing my words and feelings with the people of the Realm. Taking in their concerns, it..it all seems right. But in truth, in wondering, in longing for this sandy isle and the empire it should be…am I loyal and truly faithful to the Regency?” Sarah, shot Rufus a hypnotizing smile, allowing his words to sink into her being. It seemed as if she understood the honesty in his loyalty to their family, as well as the Isle of Nujel’m. But she understood his place within the Regency, and his purpose amongst the people. Her eyes fixed in on his, as he leaned forward, allowing a soft kiss to meet her lips. Sarah’s silence was answer enough for Rufus. But still…his wondering remained.
As the two exited the Reflecting area, they slept well that night. Enchanting kisses and gentle hands upon one another would soothe one’s dismay or confusion…And still the air in Nujel’m remained clean, calm, and the winds blew without an ill thought upon them. Nujel’m’s Sultan rested well that night, though his thoughts would remain as he awakened… _________________ "Balance - the harmony between the Principles of Order and Chaos...Harmony, Dedication and Rationality, the three Principles of Balance, are our highest ideals." |
