The waves rushed as Amoria stepped onto the balcony of her new house. It was a beautiful night. The stars shon brightly and a light breeze played with her let down hair. Cross had come to visit her a few days before, and fallen asleep in the chair next to hers. He looked so handsome while he slept, peaceful and... Cute. She smiled. He always seemed to have that about him. It made him impossible to get mad at. Turning her gaze back down she thought of the previous events. Gods! How she had missed him! He had been sick for the longest of times, and now, after so long of no word not even a hint from him... He appears in a town she's never been to.
That brought her attention to something else... "I might as well see what Astraica is doing. She normally gets home about this hour."
With the flick of her wrist and "Kal Ort Por" whispered under her breath, she appeared at the side of her former house in the Malas desert.
She barely got out a step when Astraica came rushing out, and cast her hand up in front of her. It gave off a golden glow for a moment and an oddly colouered portal appeared in front of her. It was a lighter blue... and had more coloured sparkles. She noted as she starred into the brightly lit center. It seemed to shimmer, and emmit a light like no other portal she had seen.
Startled a small gasp slipped from her lips and Astraica turned around. She looked sadly at her shocked sister for a moment.
"Don't be afraid. It just leads to another place unlike that of which anyone here could travel." Looking down she seemed to concentrate her thoughts, then looked back up again.
"I'm... I've been doing this for some time now. It's, my job, you might say." Her eyes lit up and a faint smile appered on her lips.
All Amoria could do was gape at her older sister. Why... How? Where? The questions ran through her mind at a blinding pace. But despite, she stepped forward. One question more prominent then the rest.
"Astra... Why didn't you tell me of this before?"
Astraica looked down, her face full of sadness.
"She always looks sad..." Amoria thought. "Even when something good happens to her." Why would she be so sad? She sighed and Astraica looked back up, her eyes sparkling with a caring few knew.
"It's, not something anyone can know. Not even my most beloved. " Smiling she added. "I'm fine. It's a lonely job. But I make friends along the way. Maybe one day, I'll be able to tell you where I go. But for now. I can not. Please. Just forget about this."
"I... Just forget?!" Amoria stated in shock. Her sister never asked anything of her often, so she must have reason, Amoria mused this for a moment, then nodded her head in agreement. Smiling, she recalled home with her last words lingering in the air. "I understand. I shall forget."
Astraica's eyes lit up as she smiled, and a gentil wind whisked around her. She followed it's direction with her gaze, still smiling, and stepped towards her portal. "Well, I guess it's off to help another..."
The portal let a twinkling sound like windchimes for a moment, as it closed behind a thin figure and a bit of wind dissappearing into it's light.
Then, all was at peace again, within the Malas desert, in dead of night. _________________ "One life is so small in the Universe. But it's that one life, that changes everything." |
