Dust covered the cave floor, lying undisturbed for quite some time. Only a few knew of the location of the tomb, and it would never pass their lips. Far beneath the Yew proper, they had lain him to rest, for it had always been his home. His death had been a travesty, justice never given truth.

A scraping sound echoed through the chamber. A rat scurried away, seeking shelter from the dark shape that slowly rose from the grave. The shadowy figure looked around slowly, seemingly getting its bearings. Dust billowed forth as the figure slowly traversed the cave. No sound echoed from the figures steps. A staircase leading up loomed before the man. A smile crossed his lips as he ascended.

Questions and thoughts flashed through his mind. Memories washed over him, of times long past. Time seemed to have passed, but he had no knowledge of how long. The stairs led to a stone structure of some sort. Recognition flickered slightly in his eyes.

'Fitting...," he said with a whisper.

He quickly found an exit, and stepped out into the night. Huge trees loomed nearby, while marshy swamp water trickled past slowly. The man shook his head slightly, remembering times past, before such devastation had come. He turned his steps towards a well known place, wondering whom he might meet.

All was quiet as he entered the familiar place. The librarians normally roaming the hallways were fast asleep in their beds. As he strode the marble floors, a hunger seeped into him. The feeling was quite unusual to him. His body seemed....different, somehow. As he passed a room full of books, he noticed a candle flame from within.

A lone man sat inside the room, poring over a large tome. Quietly did he move forward, until he was just behind the balding man. The smell of the man seemed...fulfulling, somehow. He leaned forward, touching the librarian's shoulder.

"Oh! Ye started me," the balding man spoke softly. "How might I be of service?"

"I fear I have been away from civilization for quite some time. Perhaps ye might enlighten me on recent events?" said the stranger.

The librarian smiled widely, and nodded. For several hours, he gave the stranger what he wanted. He wove tales of the happenings of the world, until at last the stranger stood up. As he did so, the librarian noticed something strange about the man.

"Pardon...I did not catch thy name, good sir?" asked the balding librarian.

The man smiled, flashing white teeth that seemed peculiar. He leaned forward towards the librarian, until he could smell the man's perspiration.

"I am Kain....Kain Elderan," spoke the dark stranger.

"B-b-but....ye be dead!" stuttered the librarian, suddenly feeling very afraid. "I was there when they examined thy body!"

Kain suddenly grabbed the man by the throat. His strength seemed overwhelming, as he easily closed off the man's windpipe, stopping any chance of a scream. Yanking his head to the side, he sank his teeth into the side of the librarian's neck.

Several minutes later, Kain strode from the room, his hunger gone. He left the building, and turned his steps southeast, seeking another familiar place.
