Kain wept as he walked away from the Abbey. Emotions swept through him like a storm, engulfing him. His body felt on fire, his mind floating. Never before had he been so overcome. His vision was blurred by tears as he kept walking.
Why did she run away? Is she not happy to see me?
Tears streamed down his cheeks as that thought crossed his mind. It had been so long since they had seen each other. He had went to the Abbey to see if the Yew Town Council was still in session. His decision to run for Chief Justice had been so sudden, but it felt right. He did not want to seem as if he could not even make the Council meetings.
Is she just in shock over seeing me, after thinking me dead for so long? Or is there more to it?
Shaking with emotion, he kept to the road. He had never expected this. When he entered the chambers, his wife had been standing in the room. A bolt of emotion had swept over him as he saw her face for the first time since his return. She noticed him, and fainted.
Was she simply feeling what he was? Does se still love me, after all this time?
He had never loved any other. She was his soulmate, always and forever. Even during the tough times, his feelings had never once wavered. The happiest day of his entire life had been their wedding. Images of her wearing her beautiful wedding dress flashed before his teary eyes.
I love her, and nothing will ever change that. I must find her, so we can be together again.
Leaning against a tree, Kain tried to regain his composure. He wiped the tears from his eyes, and blew his nose into a handkerchief. His entire body felt weak from the ordeal. He took a few more moments, just leaning against the tree, feeling its strength. He stood up then, and gathered his reagents. With a word of power, he recalled to his home, so he could collect things for the search.
When he opened the door to his house, he heard a weeping sound coming from the second floor. Slowly he crept up the stairs, the source of the sounds familiar. As he crested the top step, he saw her. Skylar sat in a chair, facing away from him. Her blond tresses cascaded over her, covering her face as she lay her head upon the wooden table. Sobs echoed from her.
Kain crept forward, his mind reeling.
I love her. I love her. I love her. She is my wife, my life, my happiness. I will not let her run away.
He leaned over her as he drew near. His hand stretched forth, ever so slowly, seeking. As his fingers touched her soft hair, she stirred.
"M'love, I am here," he said softly.
Skylar slowly raised her head, her eyes red and puffy. The table was wet from her crying. Her eyes locked onto his, tears still streaming forth. She reached towards him with one hand.
"Is it truly you, my husband?" she quavered. "I...."
Kain stepped closer to her and kneeled down, so that his face was close to hers. His hand moved up to stroke her cheek, wiping away the tears.
"Yes, m'love. I have returned," he replied. "I am here, and I shall never leave you again, for I love you."
Skylar suddenly sprung forth into his arms, wrapping her own about him tightly. She seemed to be trying to crush him against her body. He followed suit, his arms encircling her slight form. They sat there for many minutes, just holding each other.
"Kain," she said softly, after her crying seemed to subside abit. "What..Where? How did.."
Kain touched his finger to his lips.
"Later, m'love," he said. "Now is not the time for words, but for love. Come, let us lie in each others arms. I have missed you so, as I am sure you have missed me."
With that, he took her by the hand and led her upstairs. They laid down upon his bed, the world seeming to fade away as they embraced each other. Within moments, Skylar was fast asleep, her arms still holding onto Kain tightly. He laid there, enjoying the moment. He stroked her golden hair as his thoughts wandered.
Happiness. Is this what it feels like? _________________
