Kain Elderan sat cross-legged, staring at the stone structure around him. Thoughts whirled through his mind. Echoes of the past washed across him. Reaching forward, he laid his hand upon the ankh standing before him. For so long, he had believed in what this shrine represented. Honor. It had become his watchword. Did he still hold it foremost in his actions of late?

The Council meeting had gone way different then he thought it would. Mayor Lilyth resigning her post? He still did not understand, but it was her decision to make. Yew needed her still. His nomination as new mayor had come as a surprise. He could not dishonor himself by refusing. But the questions that arose from those gathered had hit home. Was he worthy to even wear the title of Mayor?

Kain leaned forward and pressed his forehead against the cold stone, whispering the words of Virtue. He needed guidance. The questions that had been put forth had stung him deeply. Was he doing the right thing? Yew deserved able leadership. The Orcs needed to be dealt with. He knew this, and yet he had spoken against others plans to bring that about.

He shook his head. He was not speaking against the plans themselves, and that is what the people seemed to not realize. The Council was a body of government, representing Yew. Yew is the city of Justice. Justice must be blind to politics, it is the interpretation of the laws of the people that are important.

His plan for Yew was to change its focus. The Orcs should be dealt with by the member guilds of the Council, and its allies, not by the governing Council itself. His first moves towards that would be to propose a guard be established by those member guilds. Yew Militia was not the standing army it once had been. No more of this random fighting the Orcs in disorganized battles. The abbey would be reclaimed first, and then slowly they would begin reclaiming of the lands.

Those who spoke of claiming the lands as being the focus had the right idea, but just a tad off the mark. The security of the citizens of Yew, their freedom to move about as they please, without fear of paying tribute or facing death. That was what was important. Yew had also become a haven for murderers and thieves. The lawlessness of the city of Justice was down right embarrassing. Kain's plan would call for the members of the Council to band together to bring the city of Justice back to a place of law, a place where people could visit without fear.

Am I doing what is right?

Speaking words of magic, Kain recalled from the shrine. He had much to do.
