Anna sat in a dark red velvet chair, her blood red hair cascading over her pale shoulders as she twirled her husbands, Dealthagar’s ring between her fingers; the ring she hand worn since the day of their wedding so long ago. She was almost lost in the memories of the past, her union to Grimrick, Dealthagar’s scheme that had saved her from the Paladin’s so-called cleansing. She even recalled the trials that Unforgiven had put her through to be Sired a Ba’ali.
“Kotare, you claim I have tarnished my bloodline, when you are the one whom has done so. You seek to sire your mate and toy with her as your source of food. You are the fool that plays with things you do not understand. My mistake was in thinking you were noble enough to receive such a gift that I placed upon you. Now you have broken the rules, my pet. There is so much you do not know.” Anna recalled what she had said to Kotare at their meeting a few days ago, with his new bride by his side. Anna knew the tunic she wore was to hide the markings her husband had placed on her flesh.
Rising up from her chair she slipped the ring back onto her finger. She scrolled a note to Unity, a simple note of that they must meet soon, and summoning a servant she instructed the young girl to see the note was delivered to Lord Unity right away. Anna hesitated for a moment, pondering to make the young girl a meal when the choice instead to have the girl deliver the message won over.
As the girl left Anna bedchambers, Anna took a small crystal bottle and poured its contents into a goblet. She lifted the goblet to her full, soft lips and drank the dark-red blood that would sustain her a few days. “Now that dinner is done, time to sleep.” She spoke as she slipped into the soft satin sheets. The night was cool as she pulled the blankets over her burying her head under them. Her thoughts were on blocking out the past nightmares and hoping they would not revisit her this night as they had so many times as of late. It was always the same dream, dreams of the past. Slowly she drifted off to sleep. Swirls of darkness entered her mind as she drifted further away.
She began to dream:
His appearance to her was as in all the other dreams. It was obvious to her he was a Paladin. His shadow chainmail bore the blacksmiths mark "Grimsmith" and his blue cloak reminded her of the colors of the Regency. In his hands rested the brightly glowing, keen edged broadsword she knew was named "Justice". He was attractive to her, yet sent a chill up her very being. He was her destroyer. Somehow she knew he was here to end her life.
Slowly his words touched her mind.
“So you have come back have you?" the Shade barked, voice dripping with contempt, "Do tell me what evil deed was used to suck you out of the pit whence you were sent so long ago? Who is accountable for this deed?”
Startled by the vehemence in his voice, Anna quickly answered, “T’was Lord Dealthagar who saved me from that horrid nothingness that you sent me too! Then you molded what was left of me and made me into something that I was not.”
“Well you got most of it right my dear. By the power of Virtue, I cast you out. Sent you to the hell you had so richly earned. Left behind was the woman who loved the virtues and all that was good." He looks about him at the corrupt and foul fortress that was once a bastion of light, "Now, how this has all come about I shall find and end.”
The paladin drew the gold sword above her and began chanting the Mantra of Justice. In slow motion the sword sliced through the air aimed for her throat.....

Anna cried out and awoke, hearing her own screams break forth from her lips. Fear was deep within. Pushing the covers back, she saw it. Staring at the object, a tear made it’s way down her cheek as she reached out too take it into her hands. It was a single rose with a simple note attached: A whispering Rose from Grimrick. She picked up the rose and once she touched it, all the red petals faded to black and dropped onto her bed covers. |
