She sat in the great hall feeling the warm sun bathe her body but it was just as if it were night to her. Alone in the dark of her thoughs she pondered the past days since the battle in Yew last Sunday where she was hit in the head with an explosion potion. Her head still throbbed from her wounds. She tried to piece together what she remembered of those hours following the battle.
The explosion must have knocked her out of the boat where she was washed ashore near the disimbarking point of the orcs and their allies. Her enemies found her there, semi-concious and soaked to the skin, bloodied from the deep gash to her head.
She remembered being dragged and then carried back to the Orc fort.
She remembered cackling and gloating over their victory at sea and then she could not remember anything until she was dropped to the ground in the orc stronghold.
The last thing she remembered was the stench of the place and a searing pain, then blackness.
The next thing she could remember was voices, soft concerned and masterful voices of healing...CJ, Vaen, Leshok Majere...Silent Poet chanting his Highlander’s spells.. and Rum, and Sonya...everyone was kind to her and wanted to help....and Lady LaBelle...She remembered speaking to her...
Speaking...her tongue was still swolen from it being restored to her after it had been removed. The pain from the wound in her chest and her arms were healing but she was left in the dark.
CJ had told her that night, as she was recovering, that someone had gouge her eyes out and cut out her tongue, that some of her hair had been shaved away and she was riddled with wounds on both arms and her chest and bruses everywhere. He told her that who ever did this had dropped her nearly lifeless body in the intrance hall of House Gauntlet where CJ had found her in a pool of her own blood and he had call in some help to try and heal her. Her tongue was recovered outside on the steps where apparently one of the orcs carelessly dropped it and it was reattached but they found no sign of her eyes anywhere.
She remembered parts of her conversation with Lady LaBelle. She had asked her to get in touch with Raedyn of *V*, a cleric, which she did. At the time she had hoped they would find her eyes and he could magicly or surgicly replace them but to no avail. They were gone and there was no hope of that.
Raedyn came to see her and he asked her many questions. She told him that her eyes were gone and that option was gone with them. He then came up with a solution to the problem. He said he was going to hunt for some power crystals and some obsidian stone and have some eyes crafted for her. "The gift of sight" would be magicly placed in the stone eyes. They would appear normal but with a slight glow. He said he would need help though. These things were hard to come by and would require skills he did not have as a cleric, especially the obsidian, there was much danger in gathering that. She told him if he needed aid she could ask her guild and friends and allies and she thought they would help.
She asked of this "Gift of sight", then he told her the hardest thing she had heard since the horrifying experience of the days past, "The gift of sight" must be given willingly from a person or taken from a creature. He would do all he could to restore her sight but the creature or person that gave up their sight would be blind perminantly unless they themselves could have it restored by magical means. She knew she could never ask someone to do that for her...She asked him to give her some time to think about it and he agreed to leave her to her thoughs after he saw her to her room. He promised to keep journals of his progress should this be successful and someone else should need this in the future. She thanked him for coming and she said she would let him know her decision in a day or so.
Now sitting in the late afternoon sun pulling her hair back, what was left of it, she contemplated her options. Surrounded by books she had collected over the years, she lightly ran her fingers over the covers of a few of her favorites that she would never be able to read again with her own eyes and she sighed. She thought of things she missed most, her children’s faces... Martin...the way his lips curled up into a smile and his wink when he was teasing her...the nights they would lay and watch the stars...no more stars...the elven garden...she bit her lower lip as tears burned her wounds behind the bandages that had been there since that night.
But how could she ask someone else to give up the things she so cherished, stars, sunsets and sunrises, oceans, waterfalls...she couldn’t.
There must be another way...Perhaps she could go to Islinar and ask her kin there. The Pixies... they helped her before. Perhaps they were different enough from her that they could regenerate themselves, perhaps they knew some magics to help Raedyn...She would talk to Readyn and ask him if he would help her get there...Martin...he would take her. Between the two of them she could find her way there. _________________ Grand Duchess Molly Kaldhel
