Maelwyn ab'Arawn was born the twin sister to her brother, Myrddin, to her parents, Mairsil and Ceinwyn ab'Arawn. The house she was to grow up in, was nestled in Old Caina, a most forbidding climate. She was rarely allowed to venture outside, and never without a guard or family friend. Her brother attended a private school for boys, while she was home-tutored in various subjects including: history, geography, and many different langues, including elven, common, and drow.

Being that she was the offspring of a half-drow and a half-elf, she grew up with many different types of people as her friends and faimly.
maelwyn was a carefree, crusiously naive young child, who gasped in awe at her first visit to Hanse's Hostel, when she saw grass for the first time. Unused to the warmth of the land, she was amazed by its beauty. Having grown up in a land of perpetual ice and snow, she now longed to travel and see more of the world. No longer did she wish to be rescued from a dragon and to marry a prince.

When it came time for her to choose a profession, rather than bridal training, she chose to be exactly what she had always admired, an archer/mage, like her father. She had always held him in awe and admiration, he was her hero all through her childhood. her mother had long ago forbid her from learning the art of necromancy, as her mother had done. This had made Maelwyn unhappy for many years, growing up.

One day she learned the true extent of the evil of her parent's chosen life. They were members of The Dark Order, and were therefore part of the tyranny of Dark Cove. Maelwyn could not accept this, and confronted her mother, who would not be swayed into leaving the order. A terrible argument insued, and Ceinwyn left, leaving their new home to Maelwyn.

One day, while travelling through Ilshenar, collecting bone shards for her tailor, Maelwyn received Lord Oaks' calling. Shortly after receiving the calling, something within her seemed to awaken and permeate throughout her. She realized it was the spirit of her long-gone aunt, Ceridwyn, of the former Druids guild, who was actually the reincarnation of another ancient spirit.

Maelwyn will go out of her way to help a friend, but she will not tolerate the needless destruction of life. She is giving and kind, and would not think to harm another unless it would save a life from unnecessary death. She detests the twisting of the laws of life, and strives to vanquish it.

As time went on, she felt her ties to the land and animals and plants around it becoming stronger. Rethinking her desire to be an archer, just like her father.. she decided to give up the bow and focus on the beasts of the land. Thus, did Maelwyn become an animal tamer, using her lute to ease them in times of need. The new profession fit her nature so well, that she has never looked back on taking archery up again.
