DROW

1. Like their surface cousins, drow are also beautiful and elegant creatures. Their subterranean cities are filled with many works of powerful magic, great wonder and beauty. Drow have black skin and white hair. They do not have facial hair. They can see prefectly well in complete darkness, and their eyes will appear with a red (or rarely lavender) glow when they use this ability.

2. All drow are religious. Their society is built around the worship of their chief goddess, Lolth. Drow society is structured around Houses, each lead by a matriarch and her daughters. All noble drow females are raised to be priestesses as Lolth typically grants clerical powers only to females. All noble drow males are raised to be either warriors or mages.

3. Drow society is matriarchal. Drow females in the favor of Lolth are more powerful than males and consider themselves to be vastly superior to drow males. The exception to this are mercenary groups, which are often composed of houseless male drow. Mercenary groups are tolerated by ranking female drow because of their usefulness in warfare. Mercenary groups may tolerate the presence of non-drow in their ranks.

4. All non-drow are considered to be upon the same level as animals. Drow will only make alliances with non-drow if they see an advantage to themselves.

5. Drow do not think of themselves as evil. In fact, there are rigid codes of behavior and status among the drow. Drow ethics, such as they are, simply do not apply to non-drow.

6. Assassination and murder (as long as one isn't caught) is a common means of advancement in drow society.

Thank you Arcana for the edits on both the elves and the Drow

Actually, drow are more xenophobic than you state. Proper drow from the underdark not only think of other races as "lesser" but will kill on sight any in the underdark! They don't slaughter animals. If a drow is released from Lilith/Lloth/Lolth's control, they usually become far more docile and less threatening than those who are under the Dark Mother's control in the underdark. (The drow are all controlled by her.)

I am aware that the version of Drow stated is not 100% accurate. It is mainly due to in game mechanics. Just like a vampire should turn to ash when the sun comes up, I'm not going to duck for cover everytime its daytime in UO. it would interupt RP and it would be just a mess. especially since day and night seems to change every 30 minutes or so.

Keep in mind these are general standards for UO. Guilds such as DRW would still have their own standards to go by. A good example would be for them to follow what we have listed and then exclude certain points in favor of some of their own. Such as a new deity or behavior. You then have a template for a Surface Drow based of an Underdark Drow.

When designing these standards, we were aiming for more of how certain creatures would look and behave. Knowing each character is unique, players would draw upon certain characteristics and tweak their characters a bit to fit their style of play. I'm not going to stop someone from playing a Drow because they don't believe in a god or gods. Yet, they look like a drow, behave like a drow and so on. That character may be rebeling or might have grown up with parents who have long since abandoned religion. See my point?

That statement is only 70% right. At the moment, masses of drow are worshipping other drow gods. And an uprising of men worshipping another god (starts with a 'v') other then lloth I believe are in the processes of wrestling most of the power in mesonbetania (however you spell it) ((which is only one of the many drow city's)) from lloth and from the dominant female rule.

More and more drow (mostly if not all just the men) are worshiping other gods over lloth due to the female favortism lloth has.

Vhaerun

Thievery, Territory, Drow males

Vhaerun is the god of thievery and the furthering of drow power on the surface world. He is also the patron deity of drow males, teaching a heresy (according to Lloth) that drow males are the equals of drow females. Vhaerun is haughty and proud, like all drow deities. He favours underhanded means and treachery to achieve his goals. His priesthood is exclusively male, and priests usually hide their true vocation in drow communities. Vhaerun has hair and eyes that change colour with his emotional state (red when angry, blue when amused, gold when triumphant, etc.) Vhaerun is passively opposed to Lloth. He knows he is not powerful enough to oppose her directly... Yet. Vhaerun wishes to re-unite the elven people. He considers all elves to be superior to all other races, however, and wishes only to have elves dominate all other races. Vhaerun's loyalty is to all elves, but primarily the drow race. He would like to see the surface elves serving as the enforcers of the "true masters", the drow, who would rule from the depths of the earth.

Ok, I got two of the male drow gods intertwined. Which drow god is the one for slimes and oozes? Does that one start with a 'G' then? I remember there being one. Grr, this is going to make me look in my personal library to find out when I get home. (or my roomates. He has over one thousand D&D manuals, boxsets, booklets and adventure mods combined. Its crazy.)
