Ivy sat quietly amid the shipping crates, files, and unclaimed relics that comprised the back room of her family's business. She needed a calm, peaceful space to sit, think, and plan. The Paladin victory tonight, however short-lived, was acutely devastating. It would have to be undone, and promptly. The problem was, the responsibility for making it happen fell largely on her. She had little to no idea what to do.
The loss of the Skull had not been entirely unexpected. She had sat in on the Paladins' meeting, she knew their plans, she had warned her superiors multiple times to no avail. They seemed to favor a much riskier and ultimately more pointless plan that utterly failed and allowed the Skull to be rendered useless. She had watched the ceremony in full and in public view, pretending she was recording the event while really scratching at a blank scroll with a poisoned dagger. The dagger later found a home in the back of the conveniently close-by paladin leader, James M'Real. It was a minor revenge, but it would never suffice...
Her discussion with the Ancients afterwards was largely useless, as without the Skull they were very weak and borderline unintelligible. However, she received a few valuable leads and recruited Sadrien Church, who had access to information that would aid her in restoring the Order. Seeing how she needed his assistance, she put up with his attitude and abrasiveness and promised him he would receive his reward from Oblivion for his assistance.
There is still much to do, she knew, but it would get done, quickly and effectively. Now, she was aware of what needed to be done, and she had access to the people who could make it happen. All of them, rather, except one. This person would be found. The Skull would be restored. Vengeance would be wrought, and the Light would tremble before the might of Oblivion. |
