Day four of the Invasion. It is now showing that tensions are high among us. The fatigue is having its effect. I keep checking from my vantage point to see how the defenders are doing. Sad to say some of the invaders manage to reach the heart of the city. Though they are quickly dispatched, the fact that they have reached this far threatens the operations here.
On a good note, the refugees are greatful and most if not all are able to move on their own or be carried when I give the order. It brings a sigh of relief that none will be left behind. Sadly I feel it will be hours when I give the order to evacuate the castle. The battle lines are nearing. What few troops I do have are already pushed to their limits. I have to let them rest. Even I am weary from the lack of sleep.
I spent some time today meeting some of those we protect. One of which is a small boy who was seperated from his mother. No more than 11 years old, he told me his name was Joshua and that his father was on the front lines fighting and he does not know where his mother is. I spread word through out the castle the boys name, but no one seems to know him. Sometimes when I get moments of free time, I spend time with him and make sure he has company. I can't help but smile as he calls me Uncle Kot. Sometimes I let him wear my cloak and sash as well as let him follow me around. It makes him feel important. I even have gone as far as sending out a rider to the eastern section of the city to find his mother. So far no luck.
Among the people I have met, many remain cheerful even in these dire times. Another such person is Mrs. Gaferdy. An elderly woman who I would guess to be in her 70's. She has many a great tale. Tales of how her late husband was a castle guard at this very castle all those many years ago. She went on about his heroric deeds when summoned to Trinsic when the invasion of Jon'ar was happening. Sadly, she also told me that is where he met his fate. She seemed very proud of her late husband. In the traditional ways of my people, I bowed to her, thanking her for her husbands service. I think it spoke volumes to her as she began to show tears of joy over the jesture.
These indeed are fine people. I will not look forward to leaving their company, but I have a Duchy to run and my troops have not had a decent nights rest in months. Its time for the Regency to take over now. They have already begun to post guards here. Some of which I have already spoken to over issues of the main gate. None the less, The time of the BlackWind here in Britian is comming to its peaceful end. When I evacuate these refugees to the eastern side, we will look after each one until care is ensured for all. Once that is accomplished, we will return home by the passage to the southwest then head north through the Lichwoods and on to home. |
