It had begun with Aegir of The Black Knights of Malas. He had approached Maelwyn for help with a problem that had been plaguing him for some time now. At first, he had wanted to discover a cure to fix the suffering in Black Cove. But, from there, he had digressed into a completely different problem he had.
He revealed that he was a creation, from another plane, and that his maker, his god, resided within him. It had used him as transport to our land. He told her that from time to time, the being within would emerge, with full control of Aegir, and perform brutal acts. Maelwyn revealed a few ways that he might be put at rest from the demon's foulness. With that, Aegir had left.
A week later, another druid had been approached by Lord Rosar, Leader of The Black Knights. He came requesting aid for Aegir. It seemed that Aegir had been completely taken over by his god. The demon, or whatever it was, would not relinquish control and return to it's own plane. They had locked Aegir in their keep, until he could be treated.
So it was that Monday evening saw The Druids meeting up with The Black Knights. From the Druid Retreat, Maelwyn opened a gate for them to the Temple of Fire, on Marble Island. Aegir was prodded along between the 2 Black Knights, Toren and Rosar.
Inside the temple, Maelwyn waited as the 4 directions were taken, Aegir placed in the center of the group. Calling to the 4 directions and their corresponding elements, she ensured that that the Circle was complete.
"Let no evil enter here, and no evil escape. The circle is complete."
She began to question the god/demon. She had to get a better idea of it's nature, and the longer she kept it talking, the more she could delve into it's heart, and discern it's true intentions. As she questioned it, the god began to make quips and belittle her and the Druids, calling them pathetic and whatnot. Maelwyn just let him make his remarks.. for she had seen that he was powerless here. He had no worshippers here. He had only the body he walked about in. She said as much to him, and he made mention that he would be bringing his warriors here from his plane. Maelwyn told him that they would soon see him for what he is, and denounce him. When he told her that they were too stupid to do such, she informed him that she would enlighten them, herself. This seemed to enrage the demon/god, for he began to liberally hurl insults.
Maelwyn could only chuckle. A powerless god, who proclaimed himself the God of Death and Hate. As if we don't have enough of that already, she joked to him, telling him he would have to stand in line to claim such fame. She began to lay a curse upon him.
"I curse you, One Who Resides Within and Calls Himself Aegir'ith. The land shall not sustain you anymore. The land revokes all it has ever done for you, let your muscles grow weak, let no food ever nourish you again, no rest ever refresh you. The light of the sun shall not give you warmth, and you shall find no peace here."
The God/demon howled in rage at her, seeing that her words were potent. and meaningful. But she went on, to ensure that this potential threat to the world never saw the true light of day, to trap it, hopefully forever. One could not let him go back to his own world, just to return with his true form and his aforementioned army. No, she realized she would have to trap him here, where he was weak. And since he claimed ownership to the form he now possessed, she saw that she would indeed give him his ownership, though it would not be his ideal method of ownership. She allowed herself this joke, privately, and began to call upon the might of Lord Oaks, laying a simple yet very potent spell upon the entity.
"It is time for the enemies of the land to sleep, and dream of peace."
Instantly, Aegir began to blink his eyes, looking about with wonder at where he was. He had no idea what had been taking place. The Black Knights welcomed him back and brought him up to date with events.
The Druids were just about to depart, when Aegir asked how he could ever repay them.
Maelwyn smiled benignly and said, "You owe us nothing. It is a service we performed for the good of the world."
She thought to herself as they went home, better to have taken care of this evil now, rather than later, when it might have been a much bigger problem.
She thought back to the warning she had given Aegir. The spell she had laid was very poweful, one of the strongest sleep spells there is. But even it could be undone, as could all spells. She had given him a brief warning on how to prevent awakening the demon, but she was not completely confident that he would follow her advice. Only time would tell, she sighed to herself.
As she retired for the night, she began thinking on the current evil happenings in the world. The burning at Poet's, Black Cove, Umbra. So many foul tidings that held portent of greater evils to come. And yet the self-proclaimed lightbringers were more concerned over the regent, who as of yet had done nothing to assist with the goings-on, as far as she could tell.
She sighed, seeing some light in this. At least we are one step closer to healing the pain of the earth. |
