Weeks had passed, and Rufus had not seen the walls of the Palace of Nujel'm for some time. It seemed that things just stood still. Sarah’s face had been absent from his presence though all the timing and placement was right. He had no other ties, all his time should be dedicated to Nujel’m. But for some reason, he stayed to his estate in the forest of Malas…

The air sat still, no breeze no accepting warmth, just silence. Rufus stood before a mirror, splashing water from a bowl onto his face. His beard had grown a bit, his hair longer than before, and his markings still evident upon his person. He rinsed his body, with a soft cloth, looking to his arms while the blackened ouroboros caught his attention. He stared as the light sparkled against his brown skin, highlighting his markings. “There was a time where I believed I knew everything there was to know of rebirth. I could reiterate it to a peer without hesitation. And it seems I don’t even know it myself.” He splashed a bit of water on his face again, looking up to the mirror before him. Rufus brushed the marking under his eye, staring blankly into the reflection. He thought of the beginning, when he was simply Rufus Oryan, the person who cared for all beings. His only responsibility was to profess to the populace the need for unity, and that he accepted all things. Then his priorities changed as he became Regent. Things got much more complicated, he could not believe what he wanted, openly, without a challenge of sorts from another. But it was all still fine. The problems that he faced within himself now had nothing to do with is past, but delegating his time to becoming himself again, and remaining focused. But focused on what. He had moved from the mirror and began to change his clothes…

As usual, his Blood Red garbs, with various accents of Black about the clothing were layed out upon his bed. The Sultans clothes as it would seem. But as often as he changed his clothes, he looked to the colors, and pondered on if they suited him. He felt that he owed Sarah that. He promised to be at her side, should he denounce his other titles and such. But it seemed in honoring that, it would lead to his own depression. And it was becoming truth. Mayhaps he was looking at this the wrong way. He should be shaping himself to craft a grand nation under the banner of a guild loyal to the Regent of Britannia. At the expense of his own being. That meaning, for once, he would nay know who he was. But for a greater cause one would suppose.

Rufus moved to the mirror again, the finely tailored doublet over his black shirt. He trimmed at his beard, making it presentable once again. He ran his fingers through his hair, and took in a deep breath. He threw his cloak over his shoulders and looked to the door. He thought of Nujel’m as he walked slowly to the door. He would find himself yet…Rufus came to a fork in the paths of balance he always spoke of…perhaps he would choose right…
