That's why this group will also need craftsmen/women to help the men/women in arms and supply them with the armor and weapons they need.
Since they are low-skill items, looting is optional and won't bring much benefits.
The better the craftspersons get, the better the weapons and armor will be for the entire group. So it won't be uncommon to send new recruits out to gather a few old rusty items (kill some monsters and grab armor/weapons) to have them smelted to ingots for further use of the crafters.

I was actually just throwing this whole concept in for discussion and wanted to see if there is any interest in something like that, maybe get a reply from the ORCs if they would return to their "un-twinked" days with a real competition.
