Mave rode up to his tower. He had spent the last few days traveling the land, battling new creatures that had arisen. He looked over his desk, scanning the stack of letters that had gathered there. What to do now...

The Dark Order had dispersed, and even if it still survived, he was not the same person that he had been before he left. Dark Cove was in peril, drenched in shadow and darkness, shades and wights sliding from building to building. Mave's buildings survived only through the power of his childhood friend Tiggerius who had returned to face a shadow presence that he had felt growing, though he knew not where until he saw it on the doorsteps.

"Should I seek another organization? How much has changed while I have been making my numerous voyages?", he wondered as he stared into the fireplace.

"Perhaps for now I will be on my own... lending a hand where needed when the cause is just.", he whispered to himself.

At this time, his servant appeared with a glass of wine.

"Here you are m'lord, I am glad you are home safe. A good day of hunting I hope."

"Yes", stated Mave. "This new land with it's new inhabitants is interesting. But on another matter, I need to find out the specifics of what has been transpiring while I was away. Bring me some ink and parchment. I need to write Alessandra. She will be able to tell me the things I need to know."

With a slight nod, the servant left and returned with the asked for items, then waited while Mave wrote the letter.


My dearest Alessandra,

I pray that all is well with you and the brief moments that we have seen each other since I have returned have not been enough to quell how much I missed your company while I was away. I ask that you find a time that we may meet sometime whether for a dinner, a hunt, or whatever you may fancy. I have questions about happenings in the world that I may have missed and you were always the knowledgable one. I look forward to hearing from you and hope that you will be able to find time to spend with an old friend.

"Take this letter to Alessandra and have Belegohtar take you. It is not safe to travel the lands in Cove", Mave said as he handed the letter to his servant.

"Very well m'Lord", the servant said as he turned and left.

After the servant had left, Mave turned back to the fireplace, watching as the light from the fire played along the blade of the sword as he picked it up from beside the chair, wondering on the state of the land and what was now in store for him...

Alessandra returned home from a fairly sucessful evening of hunting and was about to head to Poet's Garden Tavern to see if her guildmates were there when there was a soft knock on the door. "Who could that be" she thought to herself. She opened the door and there was a servant and a mount she knew well from Dark Cove. He handed her a letter and she in turn gave him a few gold coins for his service and showed him to the kitchen where she was sure her cook would fill his belly while she replied to his master. She read the letter as she walked to her private quarters and she quickly found her parchment and ink and replied...

To Lord Mave Gerhart, Knight of Honor,

My dear Mave,
I hope that this letter finds you and the other occupants of Dark Cove well and in good spirits. You are the only one I have heard from in quite some time. It does the heart and soul good to hear from you. It has been a great deal of time that has passed since you left. I do hope that you found what you were searching. I too have had my own journeys, and I do believe that it has done me well. I welcome any time with you my friend. There are a few new places I would love to show to you, that I have found by pure accident! I am far from knowledgeable my friend, just merely observant. I would welcome dinner with you one evening so we may discuss our travels and catch up. There has been much that has happened! I have missed you as well.

She signed the letter and stamped it with a green seal of the Legion and took it back to Mave's servant whom she found with a warm and full belly. She gave it to him with instructions to deliver this immediately to Mave. She smiled and awaited the return response from her dear friend...
